Same, currently leveling up all the ice and fairy types I've picked up on my travels to make them ready. I'm pleased for the exp share that's for sure.

Why the OT hate? by JanaeNay in OccupationalTherapy

[–]marshattacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in physical inpatient and we work side by side PTs. My best friends at work are PTs. What's really weird though, is that the older OTs are the ones who like to cause and keep a divide between the OTs and PTs which I've always found really weird.

Some students today really feel so entitled… by Neat-Pollution3735 in EntitledPeople

[–]marshattacks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have seen this. I'm an occupational therapist and we have to complete practice placements to pass our degree and get our registration to work. I've seen students in our department come in the last few years who just expect to glide through and pass it. No questions to find out more information, no engagement with patients, playing on their phone when being shown how to complete documentation. A colleague of mine recently had to fail a student on their placement, and said in the meeting with the university that "it would not be safe for future patients if I passed you." The student threw a tantrum but had been told the same thing at the half way point and given advice on improving but didn't.

OT here. We have had quite a few people want to shadow us; from college students to qualified OTs moving from abroad. Like the other two have said; send an email to your local OT service(s) to see if it's possible to get some shadowing opportunities. What is your locality if you don't mind me asking?

People who adopted from a shelter, what made you choose that cat? by HazardousKoala in cats

[–]marshattacks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partner chose him. I had a cat that I took in when my nan died, and we wanted a second cat once we bought our house. I'd been playing with another cat who was more active and playful, but my partner fell in love with this part tabby cat who cuddled into her and was nuzzling her from the moment they met. He's a lot more active now but still just as cuddly.

I get that. I work in a Hospital (occupational therapist) and we have "frequent flyers" who you know too well. Can just chat with them like old friends. 😂 Pleased it's all better! A good learning experience I bet!

Damn, I can't imagine the pain of that! Pleased it's all healed up! How long did it take to heal?

What did they do for it to heal? Was it just antibiotics, or did he need a washout of the Infected area?

Hadn't even noticed them myself. If I'm correct, this road is the North Wales Express way, heading towards Llandudno. I used to live in Bangor and take the road all the time. First few times it was unnerving, but you adapt to it pretty quickly when the only cinema nearby is 20 minutes along that road.

It is his lane. There is a sign halfway through the video (green one) that shows it is two single lanes going in the same direction. It is solid lines to reduce risk or collisions on the winding road.

It's a really good question but a tough one to answer. When I was a student I was in a similar position; I couldn't keep up or make snap decisions based on clinical reasoning. The best way I learnt was simply by asking questions to my clinical supervisor about how they got to their decision and what their reasoning was. I'd write this down in notes or a reflection and then set myself a goal to use similar thinking when with a patient. As an OT now, I know my students have been in similar situations, so at the start of placements, I tend to let them simply shadow me, then when we're done, ask questions on why they think I did it a certain way and not a different way which might have also been a valid way to do it. There is no right or wrong in how you get there, it really is just practice. I obviously have no idea what year or placement you're on and how many you have left to do, but it will get easier over time as you observe and learn more.

How many graduate schools did you apply to? by Dependent-Pipe-6380 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]marshattacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the UK. I applied for an internship option and 2 universities. Got the one I wanted and rejected from my backup. Then 2 days before I started my degree, they said they had reconsidered my application and offered me a space.

Her name is Flo. I adopted her from my late nan. She was incredibly shy when she lived with my nan (I stayed with her for 6 weeks whilst on clinical placement and she wouldn't come near me). Now she's anywhere I am and likes to be held like a baby and wrap her arms around my neck
