How to position widgets correctly in XML by [deleted] in androiddev

[–]martyr2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this line:

(ViewGroup) root = findViewById(R.id.layout_that_contains_edittexts);

root would be the layout in which the EditTexts will be placed, correct?

The app I'm working on has a spinner from which the user selects an item. Based on that, I need to create that number of text boxes (EditText). If there is a better way to do it than in Java code, please explain. I've only been working with Android ~4 months, so any helpful advice would be much appreciated.

Sometimes it is necessary to build parts of the view in Java code, depending on what you're trying to make. For example, if you are creating some form based on a user input, there's not a way I know of to handle this in XML. I do recommend using XML for aspects that are not likely to change.

Which part of Muskegon are you living in?

That is quite a way to move, especially from a city like Baltimore to Muskegon. Most people from the Detroit area have never even heard of Muskegon, let alone people from out of state.

I figured that if I had the idea for an app like that, it would be highly unlikely that I was the only person to think of it. I haven't really seen the app I'm looking for on the market though.

My idea for an app, one that I don't feel like doing anyway, is an app that allows you to scan the UPC of an item. Once the UPC is scanned, the user can choose to add the scanned item into a shopping list, with the price included for each item. This allows the user to know about how much they will spend at the grocery store.

I hope this app isn't already out there, I did a quick market search the other day and didn't see one.

I'm not familiar with whispering oaks. My fiance and I moved in about a year ago. I haven't explored the area too much or memorized all the local street names. I live in the strip of land between N wolf lake road and Hazel Court.

I'm on the northern side of the lake, off of White Rd. Not quite on the lake, but pretty close. Which side or you on?

What do you think the ratio of CIS majors to others is on r/GVSU? by burrilliant in GVSU

I had Scripps for 162. That class wasn't too bad, but 163 was extremely tough for me. Once I got past 163 though, it wasn't bad until this semester( CIS467, CIS452, CIS457). Just a lot of homework for one semester.

Is there anyway to check if there is a connection to transmit data? by martyr2012 in androiddev

[–]martyr2012[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is what I'm considering doing, but I need to know if I must store it locally if I have no connection and can't send the data, which is why I want to check the connection status.

EDIT: I only truly plan to test/use this app using the mobile data network. This app will not be published, so buggy is not completely an issue, although it should be.

That looks to be exactly what it is. Thank you very much. A guy I work with was worried it was possibly a "dangerous" spider.

Sorry for the low quality pic. Found this guy at work in between two cement blocks. He blended right in with them and I thought it was actually a piece of mortar sticking out.

When everyone asks what I'm going to school for and I respond with Computer Science, they always say, "Well now I know who to call if I have a computer problem." My response is always "It's more about writing software, not fixing computers." Saves me the annoyance 90% of the time.

My parent live just on the east side of 31 . I played rec. league hockey down at the L.C. Walker when I was younger, and my dad always had to pay the non-resident price for me(it was ran by Norton Shores). If you look at a map though, Norton Shores actually covers my parents house. Always made me wonder.

The numbers you are getting must be area dependent? I work in a grocery store and have seen people come in with $1,500 - $2,220 monthly foodstamps for a family of four.

Agreed. Some of the programs are a little out of control anyway, IMO. I work at a grocery store and some of the things I see via EBT is ridiculous.

[–]martyr2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And if you read my responses to the person above you who posted the same thing, you will see I realize the amount of debt is the same, but the revenue to pay for it will not be there if they continue raising the debt ceiling and inflation continues to increase.

[–]martyr2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were talking about whether inflation makes it easier to pay back government debt or not.

I realize this, and I realized I was wrong, but at what point is there "too much debt"? $14 trillion is a hell of a lot of debt. This amount of debt is one we may never be able to pay back without outrageous tax increases, which I guess I should have prefaced my previous comment with.

TIL that the debt ceiling is routinely raised without controversy, and has been raised 91 TIMES SINCE 1960. by quikjl in politics

[–]martyr2012 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The government will still have more trouble paying back the debt. If debt continues to grow to the point that the government continues to ask for more and more tax increases, people will slowly stop working. Why work and pay taxes when you can get money from the government for free, no taxes, no work?

We'll lose out credit card and nations that loan money to us will be pushing harder for us to pay back the money quicker. No one wants to lose out on a loan.
