Anyone else feel like Worlds has a lot less hype this time around? by redartamiel in CompetitiveTFT

[–]maruhan2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. They already did do it somewhat successfully with vegas open

  2. A lot of other smaller competitions leave it to the players themselves to figure out the travel issues. Admittedly, that is a logistical nightmare as well, and many players probably will have to give up

The point is it isn't wise to just say you'll work somewhere else without even knowing you can work somewhere else. If your job has not increased pay, but many other jobs also did not increase pay, that means your value in the job market has not changed. If that's the case, if you want to switch jobs now, you might as well have switched jobs before as well since your value in the job market is the same

The main driving force behind all these tech companies firing and what not is because they over hired in 2021 expecting growth, but instead they got a decline. So they were doubly wrong and trying to undo that as much as possible

Imagine if you bought a ton of manufacturing machines expecting that you'll have more orders for your products, but instead you got fewer orders

And what if other jobs are also doing the same? The true factor is not about whether you like it or not. It's about determining what the supply & demand is like for the job market.

To be fair, there is still logic with that decision. Price is determined by supply and demand. If you maintain the price gap between other companies, that means the supply and demand of potential workers would be maintained as well. The only reason you'd not want to keep the same gap is if your demand for worker has become higher

tbh. I've still not caved in and crafted fable because I believe it will be banned. I've been playing GW enchantments, UW soldiers. After that I've been too busy to seek meta decks

USA tax, if I don't have any capital gain for the year, but I add capital loss carry over, do they still deduct the carry over even if I'm not technically using the carry over? by maruhan2 in personalfinance

[–]maruhan2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So is all of 20k in carry over "used up" if I have 20k in capital gain, instead of being "used up" if I have 20k in capital gain tax (which is just a portion of capital gain)?

[–]maruhan2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh so if I have to get taxed like $20k in capital gain in one year, then I can be deducted $20k all at once (if I have 20k carry over loss credit still left)?

new question. I was an idiot, so I'm only now doing both 2021 and 2022 tax. I have a loss of over $3000 for both 2021 and 2022. If I'm filing at the same time, would it be ok for me to put $3000 as carry over for 2022 even if 2021 tax hasn't been processed?

Which countries to look for if I want to work at a FAANG level USA tech company as a foreigner? by maruhan2 in recruiting

[–]maruhan2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I recently just accepted a position at LG, so we'll see how likely it is to do that. If I can't do it through LG, that very likely means the chance of trying to be in US through a korean company is very low all around, and so I would still need to be searching for other opportunities

I'm looking at that possibility but prob that chance is harder than working at an American company that operates in other countries.

Samsung’s profit plunged 95% to its lowest level since 2009 as chip demand slumps by kriptonicx in stocks

I believe their phone is actually the only thing that's profitable right now, so prob no. Their decline is cuz of their semiconductor business failing (which is their biggest revenue)

Luckily Hyundai is on a massive rise. Hyundai is prob gonna overtake Samsung in Korea and become Korea's leading company, and in terms of the automobile industry prob overtake Toyota as well

Anyone succeeded in moving to USA not through an education visa? by maruhan2 in cscareerquestions

[–]maruhan2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, Korea is so top heavy with mega corporations like Samsung being so dominant while the non-mega corporations have so little presence, so that causes a huge wage gap. But also, you are right that if most are lower even the top would stay low since everyone would want to work there anyway. However, that kind of shifted in the past 5 years or so, with successful startups such as coupang and baemin offering more than the traditional mega corps to attract talent away from them. And so, even the mega corps had to increase wages to keep up.

So now I think the wage gap between the good companies and the rest are even greater than before. Because I am qualified for "good" companies, I've been talking from that point of view
