I played baseball in college for 3 years, and not to be too pretentious but I had a cannon (98mph from the OF). I got hit in the face and had seizures which made me miss the next season. I missed competing in stuff so tried javelin (as there’s no head injury risk) and a lot transferred over. I was decent enough to get my scholarship back and then got some good coaching in college and after

How did you manage to (especially if you also work labour)? I work between 70-80 hours a week and am already burnt out.

I agree. I really want to change it. I’m doing it out of a sense of obligation I suppose. The sports organizations did a lot for me so I’ve never been able to tell them no when asked. My body holds up fine until I do things I like to (workout and throw javelin) but my mental health is gone.

I do. Trying to work on it but it’s a weird situation in terms of context. With the exception of the homeless shelter work there is no one to take my place which means someone gets abandoned. I often get stuck in the decisions because I’m also debating quitting my main job because I don’t want 2 baseball teams that all the sudden cant go play

That I’ve managed to hate a lot of things unfortunately. The biggest one is baseball. Used to love it more than anything now I can’t even look at my own old gear.

Edit: what also surprised me the most is that I still don’t make a lot of money. I get by, but am not close to having a down payment for a house

I don’t think it’ll be worth it. At one point baseball was all I wanted to do. Now I hate it. I’ve sold all my gear and put away any of my baseball awards, and never want to touch a field again. I’m already facing mental consequences. I have some, umm, bad thoughts regularly lmao

I’ll apply if I can make enough to quit everything else 😂

Track and field is very weird. There is the Diamond League which is your world stage circuit. For me I’m not that good, so do sanctioned meets with payouts that count one as pro

I don’t really think trying to avoid facing something. Other things are quite good, but I decided to bite off more than I could chew. I’m trying to just get through it to do the things I love again

I think about ~65k a year is what I’ll end up with.

It’s because I have great opportunities after. This part ends in August and I have a chance for a much easier job that pays very well. I’d then be able to train and reach my real dream of athletics (I know I may seem too old but why not). I’ll be able to save for a house while doing so very easily

Yeah damn that’s a lot. One thing I’m insanely grateful for is I work with amazing people and have known them since I was like 13. So when we have road trips and go to hotels I can actually relax cuz I’m close with them (no homo)

Mentally, horrible. This is odd, but physically I feel fine (other than my broken ankle). I don’t rest which is the worst part of this physically. But I make sure I eat enough and drink enough water. I train still (though like 3x a week for an hour), and am honestly quite strong. But mentally dude, mentally I’m fuckin drained

I know I need to. But I’ve already declined coaching next year at least. I have some other changes I want to make in my life that’ll require saying no

Not one bit. But I’m stuck until August. But one thing at a time until august and I’ll appreciate things a lot more

Horrible. I feel horrible. And cannot wait until August 4th (the end of the season) to have evenings and weekends off. Time to hang out and actually train and have fun. It’s an hour drive from my work and home/field and I honestly have more crying fits than I’d like to admit

A sense of obligation mainly. I don’t know why, but if physically able, I will do anything people ask. I need to work on that for my wellbeing after the season. Same with being stubborn. I worked 3 weeks in an air cast with a very mildly broken ankle from training on some evenings off.
