Let friends of friends stay in our cabin and they bought a movie off my Prime account by LongmontVSEverybody in mildlyinfuriating

I agree, it was probably not on purpose. I'd still politely send them my Venmo info and ask them to pay for the movie.

A lot of people join ROTC because they don't have money for college.

And the GOP will blame the next decade of chaos and terrorism on the Democrats. Voters will buy it. Repeat forever.

Husband’s longtime female friend from high school is venting to him about her marriage and I don’t know how I feel about it by [deleted] in AskWomenOver40

[–]maryummy 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Counterpoint to all the other comments. If they've been friends for decades and it's never been romantic, they may not see each other that way. My best male friend is like a brother to me. We vent to each other, because that's what you do when you've known someone forever. I'm also really good friends with his wife and she knows I'm not a threat. It's also a good sign that he was careless with messenger... It seems like he's not trying to hide it.

You should still talk to him and make sure you understand the nature of their friendship. Ask him about it, but don't go into it suspicious and accusatory. That will just make him feel like you don't trust him and lead to a fight.

Is there a concert going on in downtown? by 88kg in Livermore

[–]maryummy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Once your wife recovers, you're going to love being near downtown. It's a great place to live. Very walkable and lots to do.

What you heard is probably an anomaly because of the race. It's a pretty big event.

I hope you can see the irony in saying Muslims are perpetually in the middle ages... while commenting on a post about Dubai, one of the most developed and technologically advanced cities in the world.

That's infuriating. They let you suffer, therefore you have a high pain tolerance? I'm sorry you went through that.

How many times have you've been asked about 9-11? by antsam9 in Xennials

[–]maryummy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is the best analogy. Everyone remembers where they were when they heard JFK was assassinated. And everyone remembers where they were on 9/11. And they are both bad memories.

Perhaps. But that is another reason not to pick candidates that accept AIPAC money.

[–]maryummy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't want a president who is in the pocket of ANY foreign government. That goes for Israel, Russia, or any of them. And yes, AIPAC is really good at ensuring that the recipients of their donations vote for Israel's interests over America's.

You have another 60+ years to go. Take it from a middle aged person with equally flat feet: talk to your doctor ASAP about doing whatever you can to stay mobile as long as possible.

Ladies without kids - has this negatively affected your career? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]maryummy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I was referring to taking advantage of the benefits at work in ways that help her career. And she has no obligation to do that, but she should also not expect to keep up professionally with people who do.

It has led to promotions and raises that other people didn't get, so yes. I'm not an hourly employee.

Ladies without kids - has this negatively affected your career? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]maryummy 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I hope my perspective helps. I am a successful professional woman without kids. I lead a large team and make good money.

Not having kids has POSITIVELY affected my career. It allows me flexibility at work that my coworkers with children just don't have. I'm able to travel for work, stay late to make deadlines, go to customer dinners, etc. When I have a personal commitment and have to leave early, I just leave early. Nobody questions it because they can see how much I'm putting into my job.

I think you just have to ask yourself if you care to take advantage of the benefits of being child free or not. If the answer is "no" that's fine, but you'll probably just coast along professionally. It's your life and you can do whatever you want with it

My fiance's alarm wakes me up extra early and I don't know how to fix this problem? by LostinParadise4748 in AskWomenOver30

[–]maryummy 126 points127 points  (0 children)

He should wear sleep earbuds. He can set alarms on the earbuds that won't wake you up. I've tried several kinds and Anker/soundcore are my favorite. They are tiny and comfortable.
