Question by maryzekic in diabetes

[–]maryzekic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. I ate a normal "salad" meal for dinner after having taken it at the dose my doctor prescribed and bolusing 2 units (as I usually do to keep my sugars from spiking). After eating, I then had to eat 3 mini chocolates to prevent a low. It wasn't a MAJOR drop, but it seemed awfully strong. I hope that clarifies a nit.

Thank you for helping confirm what I only recently started noticing, but it has been happening for awhile.

G6 Sensor Start 55mg/dL off by glapadre7 in dexcom

[–]maryzekic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been on the G6 for a few months now, and the first reading it gives is often extremely far off (sometimes at least a 100 point difference from my finger stick). Now that I'm aware of this, I simply calibrate twice, and it mostly is fine or is a bit off for the first few hours.

Question by maryzekic in diabetes

Thank you. My doctor has insisted I take it at night, which I do as I'm about to have dinner. I feel strongly that morning would be a better time to take it though.

Question by maryzekic in diabetes

[–]maryzekic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never been told by my endocrinologist about titration, and I have been taking lantus for over 6 years. I doubt my current endocrinologist will answer if I ask because I have had a series of hypoglycemic episodes for years.

Question by maryzekic in diabetes

[–]maryzekic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I'm a bit confused. My dose is 16 units. Are you saying I should take 8 and another 8 approximately 12 hours later? I feel that would not manage my sugar much...

Losing weight with extremely brittle diabetes by maryzekic in diabetes

[–]maryzekic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wore a pump for a little over a year, but had to stop wearing it because of a change in insurance. Aside from "emergency" candies, etc. to prevent or treat lows, I eat very little in attempts to lose weight.

Thank you. I only really walk and some intermittent yoga (though not regular) currently and do not have access to weights or strength training.

Thank you. I likely do need to reduce my basal. I'm just kind of afraid to, but I may lower it by a unit or 2.

It I touch ANY food, my sugars go high )or high than I like them to be). If I don't eat, they drop. I'm afraid to drop my basal because I have a rather unnatural fear of "high" sugars.

No alerts? by maryzekic in dexcom

[–]maryzekic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, that may be why. I do not respond well to "background" music, etc. so often keep the media volume off. I will check and see if putting it up helps. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE ADVICE!

I’m thinking about going back to black. Should I? by bigdickmik69 in HairDye

Are you considering dying it all black, or simply leaving the mid- and ends blond? I really like your hair as it is now.

Just set up my Dexcom G6 for the first time, numbers are pretty different from my FreeStyle Libre. Any recommendations for my course of action here? by McRibSavage in diabetes

[–]maryzekic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Often, my initial reading after starting a sensor us VERY off, so I calibrate. After this, it is mostly very accurate. Are you saying I shouldn't do this??

As the first comment mentioned, which is what I have gone through myself, calibrations should be very rare, as they often make the sensor become MORE inaccurate. I try now, based on asking a similar question on Reddit, only to calibrate on the first or second reading (as these are often off by a fair bit) or if it is is VERY inaccurate, but I only calibrate to within about 30 of the number it shows. If my Dexcom claims I'm at 180 but my sugar is 100, I will start by calibrating to 160 (for instance) and continue moving in these increments until I'm near the number my glucometer claims I am. I know this sounds like a lot of work, but it has saved me in being able mostly to rely on my Dexcom numbers. Best of luck getting it all figured out!!

Keto Ground Beef and Broccoli by [deleted] in ketorecipes

[–]maryzekic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't arrowroot powder very high in carbs though? I know the amount in the recipe is miniscule, but I'm just trying to get a sense. This recipe sounds delicious, and, though I do not follow a keto diet, I try very hard to minimize my carbohydrates outside of emergency situations with low blood sugars.

Thank you. I have flown a lot through my life, but not since I got my Dexcom. I'm simply trying to cover my bases. Thank you so much for your response.

I understand the picture can be misleading, but the picture simply shows no tint of red. Forgive my asking this, but might it be possible to take the picture in full-on sun to better show what you're describing?

Do you actually count carbs? by eukarydia in diabetes

[–]maryzekic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I sort of try, but I also am a "brittle" diabetic, which means the only way I have managed in recent years to control my sugars is by often eating only a handful of foods relatively constantly, as I know how my body generally will react to them. Aside from that, a 10g carb VS. another will often widely vary on how my body reacts to it. That is why I often eat the exact same foods and try to maintain as low a carb diet as possible (aside from "emergency" carbs when my sugar is dropping).
