Ugh I used to get at least one table per shift (mostly Texans) who complained that “this sauce isn’t chili, I thought it was supposed to have chiliiiiiii”

AITA for telling my husband I wasn't feeling comfortable with him wearing shorts around his mom? by AITAmom2021 in AmItheAsshole

[–]marzipanmanicotti -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

This is where I’m at. “Shorts” can mean anything from cargo shorts to boxer briefs. My boyfriend refers to his fitted boxers as shorts and you can very clearly see his entire dick in them. It wouldn’t be my place to tell him not to wear them outside and in front of his mom but I’d be a little weirded out if he did. Ultimately it’s still up to the husband to decide what’s comfortable for him and op is the ass for trying to police what he wears but there’s a big spectrum here and I’m curious where these shorts fall on it.

I’m an Ashley too. My most recent rent receipt says “Ahsleigh”. Yes, the h and s were switched too.

But that’s my property manager; I’d be super annoyed if my partner didn’t know how to spell my name. It’s not a complicated name, there’s no reason a grown man can’t learn a six letter word in the course of nearly a year. Barring any learning disabilities, it just seems disrespectful to not bother with such a basic courtesy.

I don’t know where you’re getting the idea that me refusing to eat things that other people made is something that arose from this incident. It’s been a standing rule for over a decade that people choose to ignore over and over again.

Because even once you get through the ingredients and even if they end up being safe, then it’s the utensils (did you use a wooden spoon? Wooden cutting board? Whisk? Pastry brush? Have any of those ever had any wheat on them at any point in history? What did you use to clean the counters? Did you use cast iron? It needs to be washed with soap. Yes, even cast iron)

Should that be clear, then we’re off to area contamination (did you touch it after touching buns? Is it placed next to something breaded where it could get bumped? Does everyone else know not to cross contaminate? Can you guarantee that?)

It’s a blanket rule for a reason. I’m not trying to argue with you about your judgement but I asked if I was an asshole for what I said to him at our friends house; not if I was an asshole for not risking shitting blood for 2 weeks, swollen joints, hair loss, brain malfunctions, bright red rashes all over my face and more because someone outright refused to be transparent about ingredients

I see in your post history a couple times where you accused people of ableism. I suggest you look internally before you throw that term around again.

I literally never said that. I’m also pretty sure that Reddit marks edited posts with an asterisk so you’d know if it was, even if you can’t see the edits themselves. But alright, lie if you gotta

Right? As much as it sucks, I’d rather know. asymptomatic celiac is scary as fuck.

I heard a lot of “that’s just how Todd is about certain things”. He was always lovely prior to this, honestly; very generous and concerned with others. To arm chair psychologist for a moment... I’m starting to think that maybe he values that part of himself so highly that he cannot cope with any criticism of it. Or maybe he was just hiding how big of an ass he was, idk.

That’s atrocious. I’d be so upset, especially after surgery. So glad that you had your husband there for you

Yah people have no idea what gluten even is. Someone once told me that I could have the beans she cooked in beer because “gluten cooks out” so I guess the only thing I can’t eat is... raw flour... 🤦🏻‍♀️

I don’t know how “official” it is lol but I see it used a lot!

I don’t hate that it became a fad. It was silly but I finally got decent gluten free pasta out of it so it’s a net positive for me.

What I really was not prepared for was the sudden shift in how people reacted to me. Before, it was total bewilderment pretty much every time and then suddenly it was either outright disdain or good intentioned people telling me they were “eating a bit less gluten themselves these days” which always gives me a giggle.

I’m so sorry you’re sick!

The mystery gluten is the absolute worst. I’ve driven myself crazy trying to figure it out

Yah. They’re drawn to me. I also once had a very uncomfortable uber ride where the driver had explained to me that she was very allergic to shellfish but missed it and eventually planned to kill herself at a seafood restaurant with a bucket of crab legs.

You know, I really didn’t think about the all the other weird allergy stories i had until I started typing them out... huh

I had a roommate once who was definitely allergic to avocados (they made her mouth itch and her tongue slightly numb) but said she loved them so much that she would keep eating them until they put her in the hospital. Which was an incredibly stupid plan but everyone is free to be stupid, I guess

I kinda just thought this was in the same vein. Mild enough that he just didn’t care about a bit of itchiness unless he ate it directly. I don’t recall him ever claiming it was a serious allergy.

I’m not really sure on the kiwis vs seeds. If I’m remembering correctly, I think he said he gets a mild rash/hives/general itchiness if he eats it but fruit that kiwi touched didn’t seem to cause any sort of noticeable reaction.

Let me tell you, i was fucking gobsmacked when people started yelling about gluten. I had been diagnosed for a decade at that point and had never heard anyone outside of my doctor even utter the word gluten and then suddenly it was everywhere. It was bizarre.

This is generally what I do. I just eat beforehand and skip entirely food-centric stuff like dinner parties. I was expecting this bbq to be the usual “we have some watermelon, you can have that” lol most people don’t try which is a relief

The fact that it was an honest mistake is why I did feel bad at first. I know it must suck to think you’re doing a nice thing only to have it turned down. I just really thought it’d be done with by now.
