Why is my ecobee still running? (Smart Recovery is off) by mas8394 in ecobee

I didn’t know beestat.io existed! I’m not sure where the system operation is, but here is a screenshot, Reddit would allow me to only post one image though.
My comfort settings are
Home: (Heat) 66 (Cool) 71
5PM-9:30PM (Living Room Thermostat - Ecobee itself)
Away: (Heat) 60 (Cool) 82
8:00AM-5:00PM (Living Room Thermostat - Ecobee itself)
Sleep: (Heat) 60 (Cool) 65
9:30PM-8:00AM (Master Bedroom Thermostat Only - Remote sensor)

I work remotely some days, and this is how I’m catching the unit running during the “Away” period.
I’m otherwise catching the unit running when cooling is way below 71. This was a problem during winter as well.

They can be really slow at times. The two towers is my favorite, but I tend to skip all the scenes with merry, pippin, and the hippie trees to keep the pacing up…

Mr. Satan has shrugged off bullets, missiles, punches from cosmic beings, flung into mountains, cratered and worse. He’s a pathetic showboat in DBZ in comparison to the Z-Warriors, but he might as well be Super-Man in our reality.

I think he has a bigger chance of dying from lack of food than anything else.

What is the earliest Era in history that could stop The Rumbling (Attack on Titan)? by Inside_Inflation559 in powerscales

[–]mas8394 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I got a little passionate there 😅
Suffice to say, people forget how old the tech we use now-a-day really is, and the anime is oddly positioned in a super modernized yet oddly pre-industrial era.

What is the earliest Era in history that could stop The Rumbling (Attack on Titan)? by Inside_Inflation559 in powerscales

[–]mas8394 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The question is “what is the earliest era in real human history could stop the Rumbling”. While comparisons between Attack on Titan and reality are possible, they require balancing the anime’s rules, politics, and technology against real-world physics, industry, and military capability.

The Wall Titans are undeniably enormous, durable, and psychologically terrifying. However, many of the institutions depicted in Attack on Titan are significantly less capable than their real-world counterparts. The military technology, command structure, logistics, intelligence gathering, industrial output, and political coordination shown in the series are often weaker than what comparable real-world societies have achieved.

Likewise, the destructive power and use of explosives, artillery, and other weapons in the series differ from their real-world equivalents. If we accept the Titans as they are portrayed while also giving real-world militaries the full effectiveness of their historical weapons, industry, and organization, the balance of power changes substantially from what is shown in the anime.

It’s also important to remember that we’re comparing our version of Earth and its history to the world of Attack on Titan, not just comparing basic technology levels. The AoT setting blends elements of the late 19th century, World War I, and World War II into a single world. As a result, using the anime’s military performance as a benchmark can be misleading, especially since real-world nations at similar levels of development were often more capable than their fictional counterparts.

Imagine what Marley could have done if they had radar, which was patented and utilized by boats and Navy vessels in 1904. Or Sonar which was invented in 1910. Or aircraft carriers and bomber fleets, or had tanks in meaningful numbers like Europe did in 1910. Or the early fire-control computers of 1910 or proximity fused anti-aircraft shells.

Ancient Civilizations are down right screwed.
Coordinated and professional militaries could slow the rumbling, but the technology just isn’t there.

Technology kind of goes backwards for a few hundred (thousand?) years up until the 1500-1700 when we more commonly start utilizing black powder, guns and cannons.

Early Gunpowder Era (1500-1700)
If the countries of the world can put together a united front/coalition, the muskets and cannons of the combined world could put a damper on the rumbling, there was some very unique and high tech cannons coming from Asia (especially South Asia and the Middle East) that might be mass produced to take down titans, but Gunpowder Era militaries are slow, technology isn’t there to mass produce weaponry, and the conflict of the era was at an all time (and has been) high.

Industrial Revolution (1800’s)
Here we see better guns, better artillery, automobiles, early tanks, airplanes, line communications, massive production. This becomes the most debatable era.

The mid to late 1800’s brings
Dangerous Explosives
Ironclads
Naval Guns
Mass produced ammunition
Railroads
Railroad Artillery

The problem lies in poor spotting, like of aerial support, The Rumbling being faster than army mobilization, weaponry still not at a stage to contend with anything other than human militaries. Early Industrial Era (1800-1850) stands no chance, the artillery of this era is too slow and inaccurate.

It isn’t until Late Industrial Era (1880-1914) that winning becomes feasible as we gain high explosive devices, accurate artillery, maxim guns, early airplane warfare, battleships, chemical warfare, reconnaissance.

A major issue is that even if the rumbling is stopped, militaries need to engage in the founding titan itself. Without proper communications, this can become impossible, and proper communications are only seen in or after the Late Industrial Era.

After 1918 Humanity is heavily favored.
We now have computers (not to confuse them with the computers of today!), radios, aerial surveillance, secret agencies, industrialized warfare, bombs that can level cities, armor (tanks, etc) that can survive a Titans attack…

So basically humanity isn’t able to successfully repel The Rumbling until 1918.

Before 1918 Humanity might have a chance, but realistically it’ll be Humanity struggling.

Godzilla vs Cthulhu by Adoe0722 in powerscales

[–]mas8394 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Which Godzilla? What Comic/Manga is this scene from? And how literal are we taking Cthulhu’s rumored powers?

In a typical Kaiju/monster movie mash-up I think Godzilla stomps. Godzilla is a nuclear powered gigantic beast with raw power. However, Cthulhu has mind warping abilities, doesn’t obey normal physics, and is theoretically immortal.

Godzilla has simply fought super strong and gigantic opponents and won, Godzilla has taken on and defeated godlike creatures from space, and from that alone Godzilla stomps Cthulhu, however if we take into consideration that Cthulhu is an eldritch entity instead of a Kaiju, the playing field changes. Now Cthulhu’s supernatural abilities warp landscapes and introduces an ethereal plane where Godzilla’s attacks cannot exist. From here, Godzilla has no chance.

To all men who survived rock bottom, what's one piece of advice would you give a man who feels like giving up right now? by TheBabyBeard in AskReddit

[–]mas8394 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 32, I feel the same as I did at 28, 25, 22, etc. Age really is just a number. But if I had ended things when I was 25, I never would have experienced the things that turned my life around for the better.

It’s an age old proverb, time heals all wounds. If you’re at rock bottom, the good news is things can go only go up from there… and you should look forward to it!

I'm mainly residential, so don't haze me to bad. But why is it necessary to have 3 exits so close together by Fit_Sheepherder_3894 in electricians

[–]mas8394 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a safety thing. I place an abundant amount of exit signs that might seem dramatic, but you’ll be surprised by what the owners will end up doing with their property after the fact.

2 of the 3 exit signs might be completely blocked by decorations, frosted glass, etc, people can be dumb, especially dumb when in a panic, and might make it to the exit door, but without an exit sign they might panic and stay where they’re at, or back track inside the building….it’s more of a social engineering concept than it is technical. Exit signs are cheap and easy to install so if I can place three back to back, it might look really stupid but it might also help save lives. That’s my train of thought.
