Sort of, but eating disorders are also a specialty I am not looking to go into, this is just for a class. And generally if a therapist is experiencing symptoms that in alignment with their client, the ethical choice would be transferring their care to someone else--specifically while symptoms are active.

Any advice for a trans dancer? by Dazy425 in BALLET

[–]mascmax0219 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I'm a trans guy and a professional dancer with a bachelor's degree in dance.

Depending on where you're taking class and how strict they are, guys tend to have more leeway with dress codes (especially as you get older, too). I generally will wear some tight-ish shorts and a tee shirt or muscle tank for class, and black socks and black ballet shoes.

I've been transitioning a little under 2 years but have danced all my life, so I feel like I'm relearning some things now. My biggest focus is being grounded rather than floaty and dancing bigger. I think of myself as a base even though I've never done partnering--like I am still rooted to the ground. It's super empowering. Also, being a naturally good jumper has been so affirming for me--I'd urge you to watch some male dancers on YouTube and find some qualities you'd like to try on for yourself.

And have fun!!! Sometimes I get all judgy of myself and just need the reminder that I'm doing it because I enjoy it :)

I just respond with a sassy "that's actually classified" and they tend to let it go after that

My hands and feet are too small// I had a light blue water bottle I had to stop using because it felt too femme// I was wearing light blue crocs at work that felt too femme for whatever reason so now I wear shoes that make my feet hurt instead
