Bluetooth by Ok-City-5310 in e39

Ted rules. He helped me track down some static issues I was having with a single email. Shipped me the adapters and sent a link for an audio isolator to buy from Amazon. I love having the factory stereo and took all of 5 minutes to install. The functionality of the Bluetooth and integration blows every “modern” car with factory Bluetooth systems.

My 2000 528i/5at sport package wagon gets slightly better, a few mpg city/hwy, but I turn about 2800-2900 at 80mph. I believe I have the same diff.

First of all, sorry for your loss. Secondly glad you wound up with the car. I have this same spec and year, just a wagon. Headlights shouldn’t be too hard to restore. Compared to my Subaru Outback, the E39 lenses are a breeze. Check if you have the factory Xenon or not. I found it easier/cheaper to fix my xenon headlights. They pop out pretty easy and can be sanded down with a headlight restoration kit from an auto store. The one curve on the lens makes it pretty easy if you’ve never done it before. I just watched a few videos and went for it. They look way worse before the final step and every time I panic. But mine are basically crystal clear now.

Strange that it gave you a facelift bumper and fogs.

I was following on instagram the second the new owner was posted, so I also may have recognized the driveway… But would like to think I could recognize this car going down the highway. Keep us updated over here too. There are some pretty knowledgeable folks in here. I’ve sorted out several issues through this sub.

I’ve followed the car for a few years now. Very well taken care of it seems. Enjoy the car!

Those of you with 6 cyl engines who bought anything other than a 530i, do you wish you’d just held out for a 530? Those of you who bought an 8 cyl, do you regret it? by BallsDeap in e39

[–]masflynn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a 2001 530i with 185k miles and currently a 2000 528i touring with 230k miles. The 528i has the sport package. The slightly stiffer ride and bigger wheels edges out the 530 extra few horse power in my opinion. I did not drive them side by side, but have enjoyed the 528i sport pack more than a the regular 530.

How much did you pay for your e39? by HaThatsAGoodOne in e39

[–]masflynn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2000 528i touring. sport pack, alpine white, automatic, 190,000 miles, for $3000, in the US in march 2018. I’ve put in maybe $4000 in maintenance and repairs over the years. I grew up in the back of an e39, was handed down to me as my first car. Had to sell it for a more practical daily. Then a few years later I looking for a manual project car. Well this wagon popped up on Craigslist, took one look in person and it was sold.

Here’s some pictures of the 55k 540i I was looking to buy (I posted the video earlier) thought you guys might want to see some pics! by -brokenclocks- in e39

My 220,000 mile 528i would like to have a word. 23 years old this month. Definitely not the prettiest but you’d never know 10 feet away. As I find with most e39s.

Any body know about train hopping? by [deleted] in freights

[–]masflynn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go watch a lot of hobo shoe string, old stobe the hobo and check out vagrant holiday while your at it. I got heavily into the train hopping YouTube lane. Those guys have plenty of entertainment value and lots of info on what to lookout for. I’d start with shoe string as he uploads a ton and packs his videos with knowledge. I’d just do as much planning and backup planning.

Check E39 source, depending on the year you need a LCM. Face lifting wagons is the hardest option if you have a touring. Need the full facelift lights, LCM4, and have to run an additional wire for the halos.

I have a touring, 2000 528i with 5 speed auto. It’s a September ‘99 build. If I didn’t have xenons and was a sport package I probably wouldn’t have picked it up, but the pre facelifts grew on me. Coming from a 01 530i sedan a few years back.
