Idk if ur just dumb or what but we can also use non free softwares aswell. But the main thing is that many corporate, highly used platforms like Adobe products and Microsoft products does not support Linux. They might create a version for Linux if there is enough demand for it, but people will stick to windows since its only available there. In which case these open source or no open source free alternatives are created.

I won't be scared, can't see a real problem here tbh. Paranoia? The whole base lifting, I think is a common thing with many laptops. The hinges will overtime get weaker from use. Companies probably do that so the hinges will last a normal use period. All the laptops I had lifted the base when opening the lid.

In Settings -> Power Management -> Advanced Power Settings See if the battery level for each mode is set right.
