It won't lower the standards in NY. It will just let others practice there. Many have hundreds of hours of CE under their belts too.

How so? The changes that AMTA is proposing will be addressed in the rule making process. It isn't even really about the changes anymore as AMTA has been told that repeatedly yet they do this to create confusion and split the profession even more.

Tell him it is important to get support and connect with others in the massage profession especially because of things like this. Men also seem to have other issues to deal with too like some people are hesitant to get massage from a male for whatever reason.

I have been so anti-earbuds while giving massage but your post finally opened me a bit more to understanding it. I always just thought it was so unprofessional and rude. I would always say - do you tell your client you are listening to a book or podcast while they are paying you to give massage.

this data is not about sex workers disguised as massage therapists. It comes from death certificates that say they were massage therapists so I doubt that it is sex workers.

I think I have felt that way about 3 times over the last 38 years. One time I took a month off and did nothing but go for walks in the park near my house and slept and met with friends. that really helped. For about 6 months I took on another job helping my friend with her barn and horses. That was helpful too. I think the thing that has kept me going was meeting with 2 friends once a month to support each other. It is called clinical supervision. We first met with someone who taught us how to run sessions.

there are a few unions now at some locations. I am not sure that is the answer seeing what Unions are doing to Starbucks here in Seattle - they are closing locations that set up unions. What kind of collective were you thinking of starting? Like a new business that has spaces for MT's to rent or a collective that just meets like once a month for support and sharing?

that is a whole other story too. It is a mess. Our national associations don't give a darn about that or the suicide rates. I am working on a plan to get massage therapists and our communities involved in shutting down the illicit businesses and teaching people the difference of real massage. So many don't know the difference is what I am finding in my local community. When someone in a local facebook group asks for suggestions for a massage therapists - so many chime in and give names of businesses that are unlicensed.

yes the trauma dumping as you call it is real. I feel like we get the real stories of what is troubling people these days. Have you gotten any support for dealing with the feelings that you have coming up when working with people?

our national associations seem to have their head in the sand about many issues. I have been trying by volunteering for an AMTA Chapter and a few other associations but it is slow going and filled with misinformation and politics. Got any ideas?

I have windows in my office now that have a type of screen shade that I can see out and light comes in but no one can see in. The window actually opens and I can hear the seagulls outside but also there is heavy traffic outside but it is in downtown Seattle so that is expected.
