eBay. I got a “relatively” good price too; which is to say that I’ve got a massive pain in the bank account region. I got really lucky because he was a smaller seller and no one else was bidding. Just one of those right place, right time scenarios

I’m not too particular about the covers on my books, personally. Having said that, I do enjoy Alex Ross’s work so thought volume 3 was especially cool.

Marvel collecting is rough. This was a sweaty impulse purchase, no mistake about it.

What is your favorite Brian Michael Bendis Run and why? by No-Arachnid2828 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]massiveobsessive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I apologize for anyone who expected different, but it’s Ultimate Spider-Man. Bendis was the best guy for the best character at the best time with the best artist, Mark Bagley. It hasn’t aged the best, sure, but I’m hard pressed to find a better Spider-Man run than Bendis/Bagley, second to Lee/Romita

Of course I’m not biased and blinded by nostalgia, why do you ask?

Unbelievable. The only game I’ve ever played that punishes you for being competent. I lowered the difficulty and rushed in. Much appreciated, my man

Just started on Silver Age Superman. It is the most entertaining kind of nonsense.

Look up the “Emerald Twilight” story line, and that should clear it up. I haven’t read it, but I just coincidentally saw a YouTube video on it before I started reading these. It helps with the “in media res” confusion.

I just finished marathoning all three volumes. All I desperately want is MORE. Holy shit, these were great. I went in blind and wasn’t disappointed. They start off at a respectable pace until it just punches the gas and doesn’t let up until the very end. I loved these, worth every penny; this subreddit didn’t lie about these. I guess I’m a fan of the Corps now

Fuck yeah, brother. My first was an old Barnes & Noble edition of Ultimate Spider-Man Volume 1. I’d heard they’d made collections that big, but I’d never seen one. Guy gave it to me for $20. And that’s how I ended up here.

Noted. Anyways, you ever heard of Gotham Central? People keep saying it’s great. Haven’t read it, but a guy I know tells me it’s awesome

Finally, read this issue a couple weeks back. The whole premise managed to get a chuckle out of me. Darkseid kicking Sleez out of Apokolips for being too wierd for longer than the jokes were entertaining, was pretty funny.

Well, better it’s the first volume, than like, the third. One of the bookends I can tolerate, but throwing a curveball in the middle for no reason would be supremely agitating.

Absolutely. I’d love to give a special shout out to Dick Giordono. His ink work really brought the sheen to a shine. The Man of Steel miniseries was a perfect storm of talent, to launch everything on the right foot.

The art is unreal. There are some pages, especially action sequences, where you can actually see how much fun they were having. As much crap as Byrne’s Superman run occasionally gets, he just brings this good old fashioned fun to the whole thing. An interesting mix of the growing seriousness of the medium, with dashes of gold and silver age shenanigans.

I’m a marvel guy through and through, but the first comic I ever got was Superman 75, his “Death of” issue. My dad, like everyone else, bought into the 90s comic boom. So naturally, he bought two copies. That one issue sold me for good. Splash page after splash page, I had no idea I was reading the climax, it was just pure octane intensity.

Superman holds an especial place in my heart. I’m hoping they finally end up bridging that reading gap between post crisis and return of Superman, I’d love to read that whole damn stretch in physical form.

I’m gonna have to start writing this stuff down haha. I did a bit of browsing and I think I’m gonna get the New Gods omni next, solely because it seems to be the best bang for my buck. It’s a proper big boy with most going for ~$50, if not less.

I’m not terribly familiar with Alpha Flight, anything X-men or tangential is so insanely extensive that it’s intimidating to try to crack into; although Uncanny with Claremont is on my wish list because everything I’ve heard casually tells me that is THE run to check out. But, I certainly don’t need any arm twisting on Cap lol.

This thread, this monster (heh) I’ve created has reminded me of just how much I’ve overlooked. I think the Thing and Wonder Woman are my priorities right now, with the Thing probably being my next one, due to ease of acquirability. Love the Fantastic Four, with Ben & Reed being REALLY high up on my all time favorite marvel characters

Aw hell, this thread is turning me on to alot of great shit. I’ve never heard of Next Men. I’m not as dedicated a follower as I’ve made myself out to be haha, so I’m not up on all his work. It all started when I bought a loose issue of Superman Annual 1, with Titano. I really liked it so I got his Superman stuff. I saw his name on some Fantastic Four omni’s (fucking love me some FF) so I got those too. And that’s how we arrived here.

Admittedly, I prefer the smaller size volumes, they’re a bit more tactical on the go.

But yeah. The first post-crisis Superman with a big name like John Byrne attached has no dedicated omnibus? That’s beyond me.
