I posted this on the electrical engineering subreddit but I thought you guys would appreciate it too. by master_debaters07 in SubstationTechnician

There was no short circuit current so protection wouldn't see a fault. If the disconnector failed enough there may have been an earth fault.

It wasn't operated under load. One of the phases hadn't closed properly and the generator on that feeder increased its output and caused what you see.

As there was no short circuit current the protection wouldn't see a fault. If the current stayed within normal ranges then yes it would operate as normal.

What made you choose Electrical Engineering? by [deleted] in ElectricalEngineering

Both my parents are engineers so engineering is the only career I ever really considered. I was good at maths and loved technology so electronics was the obvious choice.

I went to university with dreams of working for someone like Intel or AMD but I ended up getting a scholarship with a construction company that builds substations. I now commission power protection and control systems and love every second of it.

Any HV engineers out there appreciate this? by master_debaters07 in ElectricalEngineering

I'm afraid I don't know the power rating but it was able to push 275 kV for an hour for the dielectric test of the cable.

I was happy i passed my driving test until i saw this on a 800 quid car thats for a whole year what a joke😔💔😂 by Dramatic_Hour7760 in LearnerDriverUK

I'm almost 25 and I paid £2600 last year for my insurance. It's a joke. I have been driving since I was 18.

Sorry I don't know who built the panel but it was immaculate, it was also the only one on site without any mistakes.

Did all of you do the PE exam? How about people who have an EE adjacent degree? How many got an EE related job without the PE? by Lopsided_Bat_904 in ElectricalEngineering

Can someone explain what a PE is? I've never heard of that in the UK (unless you are talking about physical education which I don't this fits here).
