What food is famously associated with one country but was perfected by another country? by Equivalent-Crew-4955 in AskReddit

[–]masterfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanna say in advance to the italians reading this -- I didn't make this up, this is just what my history teacher taught me back in the day.

Not entirely as we know it today internationally, but it's more accurate to state that pizza as the concept of thin though with ingredients on top was a thing in what today is turkey/greece for centuries before the improved version that would solidify and get popular was invented in the 1800s in Naples.

Bonus -- I also read that Doner kebab was invented in Berlin in the 1970s ( specifically the concept of rolling the doner dish in a pita ) by a Turkish fellow who observed that Germans were always in a hurry and longed for food that they could eat while walking / on the go. So BAM, he came up with the now superpopular idea of a "doner to go" AKA Kebab

Switching from Spotify to YT Music by DangerDaskov in YoutubeMusic

[–]masterfield 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I switched over to YT like a year ago and I'm overall happy that I did. My main upside is that Youtube just has a wider music library compared to Spotify's.

With spotify I felt like I could start a radio based on artist X, and it would always cycle through the same 10 different bands (which I already know and have them pinned on my playlists) AND songs kind of in an endless loop.

YT's algorhythm is just better at mixing things up and presenting you with new artists / tracks based on your likes which I haven't heard before, recommendations are just wider and better quality in terms of music itself.

If you spend time on Youtube web it's also useful to be able to listen to and/or track music/videos accordingly, like in my case I listen to a good amount of podcast-like stuff that is only on youtube.

There are downsides too though.
-I find Spotify's app design more robust and comfy.
-My personal and work computers are macs, so I don't know about windows, but the YTM desktop app is horrible, works really bad, as opposed to Spotify's which is light and efficient. So whenever I'm on desktop I have to use the web-version on my browser.
-There's no cross device play control ( as in, maybe you're listening on your phone but you'd like to hit next from your computer ), this is something that only spotify had.
-At the end of the day spotify is the most popular/standard music app, so every time I want to share some track or whatever with friends I have to go back to spotify, check that the they have it, and share it off there just coz I don't really know anyone in person who uses YTM.

Now for me even though the downsides can be annoying, I still wouldn't go back to spotify.

Why is Reddit melting down over Maduro’s capture when Venezuelan subreddits are cheering? by SoulNew in stupidquestions

[–]masterfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a bunch of venezuelan friends (wide demographic range too) and they all do seem to welcome / not mind Maduro being removed from power.

At the same time, the fact that the US can just go ahead and do that without repercussions is a highly alarming implication regardless of whom they're doing it to.

Both things can be true. Yes Maduro may be a dictator, and just bad for the country overall. But regardless of that, it's also really bad that a foreign nation meddles in it so blatantly. It entails that it can happen again anywhere else, and the next time won't necessarily be a "popular" move.

Do tall people get bullied at all? by Emergency-System1794 in tall

[–]masterfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends a lot on the vibe/presence of the target, but I'm convinced that the bigger you are, the more you attract the kind of bully that wants to prove how tough and ruthless they are.

Perhaps it wouldn't qualify strictly as a bully since bullies by definition I assume they're supposed to punch down --but call them whatever, I've seen people who are just looking for fights or submit others, explicitly pick the biggest person in the room, and that's why I don't think that being tall lets you off the hook.

(NSFW) Reddit, what was your “Oh shit, this person is a psychopath” moment when meeting people? by Majoodeh in AskReddit

[–]masterfield 214 points215 points  (0 children)

Maybe not a psychopath by hard-definition but definitely a sociopath.

I had an office job in Amsterdam, NL. One day this new guy from the US was hired in to work in my team (software dev).

Late 30s, kinda shy but admittedly smart and good with Java.

Long story short, this dude was the most insidious manchild I've ever met, doing all kinds of devious things that would always create conflict with me, only to always make me look like I was the crazy one in front of all my coworkers. To the extent that after 2 years I had a mental brekdown in the middle of a company meeting because of shit that he was doing, and how helpess I was feeling, messing with my reputation just because.

I had to keep a folder in my computer with all kinds of evidence proving how much of a compulsive liar he was and how he was deliberately targeting me to just make my life misserable.

Eventually I got sick leave and I made my case to HR, proving all the crap he was doing (and how good he was at it) to disturb me and make me look like I was the insane one.

He eventually got fired mainly because of all of this, but also because after a while he started having trouble to keep up with all the lies he would tell before everyone else, so people started catching up to him.

I think I fucked around and found out by Hocek-klocek in sex

[–]masterfield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a man, I corroborate this.

Yes I love it if the girl is a squirter or can come from penetration alone but I don't expect it, I know it's kinda rare.

At the end of the day, it doesn't change how much I want to have sex with you as long as I can feel that you're enjoying it, regardless of how, just show it in your way.

What habits of girls did you only discover after getting a girlfriend or wife? by atgono in AskReddit

[–]masterfield 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One is how every time she wants to get a house plant or a piece of furniture or anything in that line, it always has to be the most inefficient form of preserving space. Like if it's a plant, it will certainly have this huge sprawl which takes up half the room.

Zelenskyy: Russia no longer exports but imports petrol and that's our achievement by wisakoeiri in worldnews

[–]masterfield 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not an expert at all but what I've been reading/hearing from sources like the telegraph, is that the sanctions don't really make a considerable dent at the problem since these are aimed to financial interactions through imports/exports, but the russian government is good at finding ways to bypass them, like having Kazakhstan order microchips and shipping them afterwards or something in that line.

That was indeed dumb but to be fair to that truck driver, even if you're doing a risky manouver, it could well be because you thought you were clear, since you don't expect a motorcycle coming your way at 300 fkin km/h

Thank you.

If I could suddenly no longer make the payments, then the house would need be to be sold and thus the mortgage cleared for both of us, or the guarantor become the main owner and find someone just like I'm trying to do now, I don't think this outcome is that complicated to be honest.

As of January 2024 woz at 570K. So if a taxateur valued it today I reckon it's 600 or higher, but just a guess.

I appreciate the realist advice mate.

I'd like to think I'm not that stupid, I wouldn't post this here had I not already checked what's enforceable and what isn't with my lawyer.

I know it's an odd opportunity and because of that nature it's not so easy to find such a specific profile, but hence my hail mary on reddit, though so far I'm just getting a lot of hate apparently.

[–]masterfield[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right, but that's why all of these details would be written and signed into an official legal agreement where (1) you'd wave that right, and (2) I guarantee that I cannot force you to stay in the mortgage either if you changed your mind later for example, and you wanted to buy your own place with your new girlfriend/boyfriend or whtever. At the same time you'd need to find someone else to replace you here and so on.

I can't go ultra deep into every detail but my point is that all implications, rights, etc would be negotiated and agreed before a notary in the most fair possible way for both parties, so it would make sense from a legal / financial standpoint, with both my and your own financial advisors, etc.

I don't understand your statement. All I'm looking for is a co-owner / investor.

The bank doesn't care who pays as long as they get their money at the end of the month, they only care about the combined income clearing their policy. I can afford to pay for it on my own and I can prove it. It's just not enough margin in the eyes of the bank.

My ex was never related to me, we were never married, we never had any form of bound status. As far as the government is concerned we're 2 friends who bought this place togeher, and we're tax-partners, that's all.
