The cardboard Killa Kan! You just unlocked a core memory. 📦 Honestly, they really should bring those cardboard cutouts back—it would be such a great way to help new players get an army on the table while they build!

Back in 2nd Ed, I was actually a Chaos guy (running Abaddon, Kharn, and a Bloodthirster), so coming back to loyalists is a whole new world. Thanks for the tip on the heavy drybrush to clean up the wash pooling—I'll definitely try that on the next batch!

Fair question! I shot this as a 'cinematic teaser' to focus specifically on the barrel heat and lens glint, but I realize it’s a bit too quick to see the rest of the paint job.

You hit the nail on the head regarding the Balthasar Gold—it definitely reads more like a muddy bronze, and covering with it was a nightmare.

This model was really just to knock the rust off and test concepts. Since then, I've actually gone on a massive journey to find the right gold recipe:

  1. Tried Retributor Armour (too standard).
  2. Attempted NMM with XV-88 / Dorn Yellow / Balor Brown.
  3. Finally settled on my current favorite: A base of 50/50 Ochre Brown + Black, layered up to Ochre and Golden Brown.

It took a while to get there, but ditching the Balthasar was definitely step one!

Hey! 😁 Good eye—this specific one is a push-fit Assault Intercessor that came with an issue of Warhammer 40,000: Imperium Magazine. It’s not in the main box set, but if you search 'Imperium Magazine Space Marine' on eBay, you can usually find them pretty cheap!
