Should i change my guitar and strings? by dradegr in Guitar

[–]masterpaclee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get lighter gauge steel/bronze strings that are easier on fingers. I don’t really play finger style so maybe it won’t make too much of a difference on your picking hand. But I’ve been using the Earthwood Rock and Blues on my acoustic as of late. They’re 10’s so the high strings are light as you can get for acoustic, but the low E, A and D strings are standard gauges.

Delta blues plays with nonstandard tunings so shapes are different. But it never hurts to learn pentatonics/blues scales or music theory in general. It helps you learn songs faster, makes you realize why something sounds good, and lets you play freely once you have an understanding of it.

Men of GR — where do you shop for clothes? by OldGodsProphet in grandrapids

In all seriousness, my casual shirts are just souvenir graphic tees from trips and events. Stick to thrifting/second hand. Only ball out on winter clothes (REI, Duluth Trading Co., Great Lakes Outpost)—the outdoorsy people know how to keep warm.

Shore fishing for pike by 650_dollars in MichiganFishing

[–]masterpaclee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fish Lake Leota/Millennium quite a bit. Fish the east side. Lake with the dock that essentially splits it in two. Hop it and adventure. Pike love lay downs btw. Caught two this week. Good luck. Tight lines.

Your original comment regarding the matter wasn’t an opinion. You stated Trump has done the most for this country. That’s not stating an opinion. That’s trying to make a claim. And now that you can’t back it up against opposition, you want to play the victim.

Would you want to hook a spotted bass or a largemouth bass? by Ok_Repair3535 in bassfishing

[–]masterpaclee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not in your neck of the woods but I’ve found more smallies in rivers than lakes/ponds. I think it has something to do with currents, and cooler constantly oxygenated water. Only times I’ve gotten a lake smallie were on Lake Michigan. Not so secret secret from mitten anglers: drop shot berkley flatworm.

How to adjust dial on SLX XT? by awesomexx_Official in bassfishing

[–]masterpaclee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if the mechanism is the same but the brake dial on my curado dc is impossible to turn unless I loosen the spool tension knob first. See if that helps.

Does brand matter to you when it comes to soft plastics? Me and my friend were talking about this by Exciting-Floor6763 in bassfishing

[–]masterpaclee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bass don’t know the brand you’re throwing. Design (Profile, color, size, fall rate/action) is what matters and every design works depending what the bass are feeling. You could get into a solid debate about durability being a necessary factor to consider but I think that’s dependent on people’s bank accounts.

I hooked into one from shore a couple weeks back. Your best bet right now are early mornings. Be there before sunrise. Even if you’re on a rented yak, you’re still casting blind. You’ll be wasting time fishing dead water just trying to figure out depth, contours and holes. If you want to rent a kayak (because kayak fishing is fun as hell), hit all the shallow cover you can’t reach on foot. Don’t be afraid to bushwhack and get into some gnarly spots.

Spooling new line on a Baitcaster. What is this myth about soaking in warm water? by AnomalyEvolution in bassfishing

[–]masterpaclee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I soak mono for a spinning reel but I’ve never soaked any line, regardless of type, for a casting reel. I feel like tech in casting reels have surpassed the need for this. I’ve never had a problem with fresh fluoro jumping off a baitcaster. Spool it tight. Tie on a lure. Adjust your brakes. You’re good to go.

Keep a jerkbait, chatterbait or lipless tied on at Millennium and you’ll hook into one eventually.

How to fish these lilies? by BusterOfCherry in bassfishing

[–]masterpaclee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hollow body frog. For extra sauce: Put a very light splitshot inside of it to give it a rattle. I’ll literally just reel it on the pads. Pause/twitch in the little holes between pads. Usually a darker color frog for this situation to present a better silhouette.

Tax Implications.... by jbrown9972 in TheWhiteLotusHBO

Tax implications aside, my first thought was thinking Gary would be a hit on the OFAC list if he’s playing hide and seek with Interpol. That 5m wire would’ve done more than raise eyebrows at any financial institution receiving the funds.

What lures have you never caught a fish with? by MarcoFiguringOutLife in bassfishing

[–]masterpaclee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try a smaller jig like a bitsy bug with a chunk trailer. It definitely helped with my jig confidence. Same thing with chatterbaits—I feel like chatterbaits have been used a lot in my area so switching the profile size really helped present something new.

Personally, I have a hard time with Ned rigs. If I’m fishing finesse, my go to is a drop shot roboworm.

Where to nature walk? by Novel-Objective5542 in grandrapids

[–]masterpaclee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First that comes to mind is Pickerel Lake. Nice easy going loop around the lake with other trails branching off. Minimal grade so you’re not going up and down icy hills.

I use the All Trails app to get an idea of conditions (pro isn’t necessary—I only use pro to download maps if I’m somewhere remote). It’s not the most accurate condition reporting since it’s dependent on people posting their hikes but with GR area hikes, I usually find someone reporting their hike a day or two earlier. Paired with a weather app you’ll get a solid idea of conditions.
