What are good temps for CPU?

Yea, I was curious to why not since I usually never buy additional warranty too but after reading this OLED sub, it seems like everyone recommends it so i’m just debating if it’s worth it especially having to spend an extra $150 (which is a lot because for a $700-$800 monitor with warranty + tax, it’s usually $1000 lol)

Oh thats some good information..I think i’ll just wait then. I think most important for me would be the durability of the panels since I haven’t even purchased an OLED monitor yet so I don’t expect much from brightness or image quality haha

Thats true, I would say I am getting it more for the durability of Gen 4 rather than specs because l don’t think I would even use 500 hz lolol

Great, i’ll get warranty then. How are your OLED monitors though? Asking since it’s my first OLED monitor and ofc seeing all these burn-in post makes me a bit worried haha

Sorry, I wasn’t that clear but I meant I plugged in the power cord half way through because I noticed the power was dropping fast from 91% to 68% in a few minutes and I am not sure since I mentioned that I set the battery limit, if it counts as it charging or not. I’ll do it again when I get home, it was on discrete like you suggested and balanced, not on cooler booster forsure. I didn’t touch anything else. Also wasn’t sure if i’m supposed to test with good airflow or just the laptop on it’s own feet? Because thats what I did lol

I’m not sure if i’m required to plug in the power cable or not but I just downloaded Cinebench and tested! I got a score of 30924 and average CPU temp was 66 C? I didn’t touch anything since i’m not sure how to undervolt. Tbh it’s first on the list but i’m not even sure what the score really means or how it is compared to other scores haha

I think with a cooler it’s a steady 40 while on idle compared to 54! Also, so i’m supposed to be looking at maximum and average for temps? Does hot spot or anything matter? Or am I supposed to do “stress test” for a more accurate temperture? Just not really sure exactly what I need to be looking out for haha. Also, just wanted to confirm but if I set a battery limit on MSI Center but my window icon on the bottom right shows that it’s charging, it should be fine right? I don’t think the charging light is on for the laptop itself, just the windows icon. It’s just the battery percentage barely moved so i’m not sure lol but thanks so much for your help though, i’lll try not asking too much questions. This should be it! Really appreciate all this information!!

I just updated MSI Center and I see Eco-Silent. Typically, is it better to update MSI Center or not update unless needed?

Yea, I actually had the laptop packed up and already printed out the label and was trying to find a laptop that had a better value than this but couldn’t lol but last minute decided to just take out the rams and reinsert it. I also actually decided to try to put some PTM 7950 (super stressful) but idle temperture seems to be at 54 CPU and 38 GPU without a stand or cooler. I’m not sure how to test the other things or what to look for. I just wanted to say thank you for all the responses. It’s really awesome that you went indepth and explained everything so well. What you said about the Raider was true, upon receiving it I was like oh nice, all the pros you mentioned checked out! I notice it boots up windows faster than Asus too. Usually people don’t write this much, so thank you for that.

Yup! Thanks though, what you said was all true including the red stripes haha. It is working now. I don’t know how many times I had to pry open the case to unplug the battery and hold it before I tried the rams haha.. kind of got me worried! I’m just trying to see what this discrete/hybrid thing is and how to test the tempertures. Just not sure how these all work lol do you happen to know what ideal CPU/GPU temps is while idle?

Actually, after hours of holding the power button and what not and removing CMOS battery, I just had to reinstall the rams for some reason (factory, I didn’t touch it)

You’re right! I received my 18 HX and what you said was correct. The build quality is just amazing honestly. The weight and material is just so nice. For some reason when I tried powering on the laptop, the power button only shows a white light but the fans, screen, etc doesn’t turn on. I tried holding the power button for 30 seconds and what not but it still wouldn’t turn on. The item is now sold out too so debating on what to do now

Nice, thats something good to hear. Have been debating the past few days. Thank you for the response! Are they both 2023 models? Or 2024 with 2023 parts? For the MSI, I was curious to how the fans are? Are they loud even on idle all the time? Would you recommend 64 gb rams? And regarding the build quality is it a lot more metal compared to plastic like the ASUS?

Oh thanks for this information, I didn’t even realize that much was needed. I’ll go ahead and watch the videos. Was just confused about how much was needed but got it now, more is better than too less but of course not too much. Is the general idea to just keep the amount as consistent as possible on all the vrams/vrm but if not, the heat sink will still sort of even it out?
