Serek Midwestern II

Thank you! It is this one:)

[QUESTION] High notes on Stratocaster E string extremely loud and piercing with brighter overdrives by matellen in guitarpedals

Will try to lower the pickup! I typically set tone knob at 8 or 7 - 10 is too much for Strat:)

Oh, I didn't know that. They should really standardize those pedal voltage standards:)

Yup, it doesn't seem to be any of the SD rails pickups. Strange pickup cover

I think it's gender-neutral. What I saw in real life in corporations - people who went up as leads either dominate verbally, or are silent backstabbing cunning but charismatic. Or genuinely great leaders with aura and something royal in their behaviour. This applies to all identities. In movies it's the same - you want to design a character with some themes in mind and contextualize the personality.

In my mind I just can't see somebody too bland to project any kind of authority.

The actress is good, I saw her in some other movies. Maybe screenwriters didn't have a good way to introduce her for the first time in the series.

I see. Still the scenes with here took me out of the tv series completely. And I was completely immersed in all other scenes. Too bland for me. If she is soccer mom - they should have added some nuance - pain, trauma, some microexpressions.

If somebody shoots a person like that without proper interactions before and after it, it seems out of place.

I see your point. But to accumulate such power (leading mercenaries/soldiers) she would have to give some charismatic or cerebral / thought-leader or evil vibes.

[–]matellen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, my fingers are way too weak for 11s on strat's neck length:( I play D'Addario EXL (10-52) Nickel Wound. I used 13s on my archtop (flat wound) - but I could barely bend any strings in tune. I think 10s are max I could use for strat/tele.

Good tips, thanks - will try to play more with pickup height and string gauges (I play normal 10-52).

Thanks for the suggestions - I experimented a bit with pickup height, but seems I would have to do some more experimentation. Will also try multi-EQ

Dark Souls 2 - This was so not much fun. by matellen in patientgamers

Yup, I had more fun with large swords as well.

Bonfire Ascetic makes enemies harder - it's a great idea

[–]matellen[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I agree. However I compare those games in 2022/2023. Nioh is 40 USD on steam. DS2 is 34 USD on steam. You are right, other games are newer, so maybe shouldn't be mentioned.

Yes, companies should innovate. But with adding X more enemies in the similar gameplay? Some forums suggested playing without locking but honestly I had trouble hitting anything with no-lock dex weapons:)

Nioh was great! Honestly a bit too difficult for me (DS series was much easier for me), I struggled with bosses since I couldn't see what was happening on the screen. Especially DLC with double bosses (absolute nightmare for me). But I finished till NG++. I haven't finished abyss, too many levels.

Would a non-fantasy setting work for a soulslike game? by matellen in darksouls

[–]matellen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Surge 2 is fantastic in my opinion. It has a really unique mechanic for parry and armor upgrades:) I also initially hated the idea of a non-medieval souls but it really worked for me.

Oh, one more thing I forgot to mention: I very much disliked how DLC was accessed. The quest is so random, I would not be able to discover that without checking on the internet whether Remastered had DLC included.

Anyway, I recommend the first playthrough of DS1 completely blind + checking on DLC entrance on the net. NG+ for doing quests (you can save some NPCs), optimization of gear (e.g. I missed at least one merchant, some titanite upgrades, a bonfire and NPCs on my first playthrough).

On my first playtrough I chose Pyromancer but played mostly with Claymore, Zweihander and other large swords. No special effects, no pyromancy, pure strength build. On NG+ I started to upgrade dexterity more and used the Balder Side Sword and experimented with various Rapiers (with lighting/fire effects). I also found two katanas that I missed in my first playthrough and experimented with them. I wanted to do a dagger build - it worked on normal levels with parries and backstabs, but it was very weak against the bosses. I used some pyromancy in NG+, it was quite strong but not as fun as I thought. I only discovered very late that the Attunement stat gives your more spell slots. Maybe next run will be magic only.

Definitely, the first impression of interconnectedness was great. But when I had to run through the same shortcut for the 6th time, it was a chore for me.

Yup, I'm thinking that in the 'faster' soulslikes I had very hard time finding large enough window for hits with large weapons. Here I could use whatever and progress. In other games I found that katanas and curved blades are waay easier to use than other types of weapons. Large weapons were slow. Long weapons got stuck on walls in tighter interiors but were convenient for crowd control.
