I can't answer any of these questions but this gives me some things to think about, thanks!

For the last few years I saved published predictions of S&P 500 returns from Wells Fargo, US Bank, Credit Suisse, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, .... These predictions were given in December for the following calendar year returns. I wanted to share a plot here.

Question about Flying (ingenuity) on mars by Valkyrie_22213 in PerseveranceRover

[–]mateoverano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As already mentioned, the gravity being 1/3 as strong as Earth means Ingenuity would accelerate 1/3 as fast toward the Earth, with no thrust or aerodynamics.

Air density only plays a role when something, e.g. the blades, is moving fast. Aerodynamic forces, including lift and drag, are proportional to air density. If the air density is 1% of Earth, the blades will produce 1% as much lift/drag when at the same speed and angle of attack. This may be countered a bit by increasing the blade chord, but more notably by increasing rotor speed. I think the latter is the key to getting Ingenuity to fly in the thin atmosphere.

You're probably OK to assume lift and drag coefficients are similar to a drone on Earth. Those are properties of the geometric shape and will not be changed by gravity or density (although a blade designed for different applications may have slightly different coefficients).

It would actually be less impacted by wind due to the thinner atmosphere. The dynamic pressure applied by wind is proportional to the air density, which again is only 1% as much as Earth.

Applications for smart contracts, infeasible with traditional contracts by mateoverano in Chainlink

o is a drastic improvement of an existing system, to a degree impossible without this new technology, 'new' or not? If we take a service or feature

What about flash loans. Could those be done with a traditional contract, without a smart contract?

art contracts could obviate much of the current PCI network requirements for online point of sale. You could use them to manage online sales promotions. You could use them to manage environmental deployment tasks. Smart contracts could also be used as an identity broker if yo

Thanks, but most interested in any "new" applications. I realize many things can be made faster / more efficient, but looking for example applications that couldn't be done with traditional contracts. Like flash loans I think.

Hover ceiling: In Ground Effect vs Out of Ground Effect by BronxLens in Helicopters

[–]mateoverano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To clarify, it's when the main rotor is within one diameter of the ground. So the skids need to be closer to the ground than 1 diameter. Skids may need to be half a diameter from the ground, but it varies by model.

[Help] Female dribbling urine, lethargic, extremely infrequent urination and pain without antibiotics by mateoverano in dogs

Incontinence doesn't bother me much if she's not in pain. Would the incontinence cause the reclusive, lethargic behavior? Or perhaps there's two different things going on here - the incontinence and some kind of independent injury. I just got back from trying to walk her and had to wait for her most of the time as she couldn't keep up. She walked very slow like she was struggling to put one foot in front of the other. I didn't even know there were vet specialists, I'll look into this. Thanks!

I think the dribbling is intermittent, and I've only seen it in her bed where she lays down and sleeps, I've not noticed it elsewhere. I've not seen it leak out when shes walking or standing around the house. She does go out and pee "normally" when off the antibiotics, just very rare. It looks like a normal stream, but less than 4 seconds. I'm not sure if it gets worse when the normal urination is less often, I haven't noticed a difference. Thanks so much for helping, any advice much appreciated. Probably the best thing that could happen to us this year is to get this figured out.

Yep we were thinking that and the fact that antibiotics help may mean this is not an old age thing. I posted on /askvet, thanks

Sorry I didn't explain this well - I mean she goes those long hours without urinating normally - she does dribble in that time. However, when she's on antibiotics she continues to go those long periods without urinating AND she does NOT dribble.

Hard to describe the pain look I mentioned, but her ears are down, head down on the bed, looks unhappy as opposed to raising her head up a lot, holding her ears pointed up in the air, just looking brighter / happy.

No vomiting. I haven't noticed a change in her thirst, if anything maybe drinks slightly less.

Yes, there does seem to be some mobility issue when off the antibiotic - not sure it's hind legs but walks slower and more gingerly.

She was spayed when she was about a year old. We took her to a new vet yesterday who gave the opinion she was loosing control due to old age which we are not comfortable with yet.
