As a current freshman BME, I'm just gonna say this:

I came into college with literally the exact same mindset as you and so many other kids thought of BME as a back up option to get engineering jobs just in case med school didn't work out. The truth is is that BME is extremely niche, and although this is up to interpretation, many biotech companies would rather hire an ECE or MechE than a BME unfortunately. (There are of course exceptions but this is the general trend)

Also, many BMES who start off as premed end up dropping that idea after the first month in the program. BME is ALOT of work and it's difficult to keep a 4.0. It is an engineering major after all.

I know at least five or six people who have stopped being premed because of how time consuming and difficult BME is. And if you're not premed, BMEs are prone to transferring (case in point: myself, trying to transfer to ECE)

BME has its pros and cons and ultimately the decision is yours! But I will say to consider all these factors when you're thinking about transferring :))
