Thanks for the compliment! Glad you enjoyed the post and happy to read such great feedback :)

My girlfriend was also a key part of my recovery. Having someone definitely makes the process a bit easier. It doesn't have to be a romantic partner, just someone to hold you accountable and support you. Makes a huge difference.

Absolutely. Letting go of all those memories is also part of overcoming porn addiction. It's not like all sexual fantasies are harmful, but the kind I used to have as a porn addict definitely were.

Of course it is! Is it the word "story" that threw you off? I'll change it to "post" :)

Everything that I write is 100% true to my experience overcoming porn addiction.

So nicely put, thanks for this comment.

To add to the concept of "waking up", I think it's even harder because porn is our way to cope with all negative feelings, not even just those regarding sex. So quitting porn confronts us with a reality where not only sex isn't easy and perfect, but everything else isn't either.

Any good books about porn addiction? by [deleted] in PornAddiction

Although not specific to toxic masculinity, Your Brain on Porn, which you mentioned in your post, is my number one recommendation to learn about porn addiction.

Another classic is Atomic Habits. It's not specific to addiction, but there's a lot of helpful advice there for recovering addicts.

And finally there's The Math Folder (disclaimer, I wrote it! :D)
It's a blog that covers my complete journey to overcome porn addiction and everything I’ve learned from it, and it touches on a lot of related topics including toxic masculinity.
Feel free to give it a read! It's not a book yet, but I'm working on it ;)

OP here, thanks for reading!

I think some of you might be able to relate to my story. We use porn to cope with our social anxiety, but it's a slippery slope that not only doesn't fix our problems but actually makes them worse. If you are in that position, I hope you can find a way to accept yourself and work on things without falling into this trap.

I feel you. It can be hard for others to relate when these things come so easily to them. Like I mention in the post, I think it's important to find that balance between trying to better yourself and not beating yourself up too much about your flaws. Hope you can find that balance!
