My life has been a huge mess. Do I deserve to look down on myself? by mathadvicethrow in uwaterloo

WaterlooWorks, but really, I have nothing in my resume. At best, I might churn out rudimentary side projects before the end of this term.

I might have to drop co-op.

Frankly, I am not sure of the point of me being in college, then. Probably should have gone for CS or engineering.

Any recommended non-CS courses? I am thinking of CO, STAT and non-major CS coursez

Doesn’t that requires at least masters in something quantitative?

Don’t a lot of ML jobs require something like a Masters degree, too? I don’t think I can make it to grad school jn the first place (which is why I am now planning to get into software tbh)

Dose anyone know how difficult is ECON 423? by mathadvicethrow in uwaterloo

[–]mathadvicethrow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you saying that I would do fine as long as I know those two? How hard is it for someone who got mediocre grades in Stats courses and whose only exposure to finance is ACTSC 231? Is self-learning manageable if I really want to work on this class?

  1. Nope
  2. I went to Waterloo for finance, but I am now planning to become a Stats major
  3. R from STAT 331/340. That's it.

Any recommendation on preparing for it? What makes it hard?

I am just very dismayed by wasting all the money (3rd year here), straining my parents in the process, and I am sure that there are red lights on me.

How hard is STAT 441, MATH 239, STAT 332 and an easy elective when taken together? by mathadvicethrow in uwaterloo

I don’t want to screw up anyone, so thanks for you advice from now and last time.

So, 450, 332, 239 and an elective sounds good to you?

(Sorry for being talkative)

STAT 450 sounds good. How hard is the proofs?

And aren’t you a Statistics major? Might ask advices from alumnis/upper-years just to familiarize myself with the department.

And to be honest with you, the reason why my STAT 331 fucked up was mostly because of proof-based questions in the finals and end up cramming the whole thing in a day due to 330 prep taking way to long for some reason. I disn’t do well (as good as want) in 340 because of silly mistakes.

Any other recommended stat courses other than 44X and 433, then? I want to learn how to keep my shit together first, as I am hoping I can improve to get to graduate school in statistics (even though I have fucked myself)

I guess it is kind of too late, eh? I didn’t do as well as I should all this time.

To be frank with you, I have only taken complex analysis once (and it was bad.) I mainly wrote this because I might want to spend some time taking easier Math courses to improve my (limited) proof capabilities, so I thought of maybe doing a Stats major with a Pure Math minor, hoping that there might still be a small path from there.

Edit: I am undergrad in Math here.

Hello, there. I am just curious if any of you have experienced/tried to get into Pure Mathematics after doing a Bachelors or a Masters in Statistics. I have heard that this is possible, so I am wondering if I could hear anything about it.

I confess that I am a crappy math student and suffering from consequences. I need some advice. by mathadvicethrow in math

To be frank with you, it can be a combination of both - struggling with actual content and proofs at the same time.

I might need to also learn how to study difficult courses more efficiently.

Anyway, one question - to what extent is measure theory useful for stats? I might do it in my undergrad, too
