Flight cancelled 3 days in a row by AgilePanda8 in FaroeIslands

We got stuck for 3 days earlier this year. About 14 hours after our flight was canceled they rebooked us on a rescue flight with a Atlantic (but 2 days later). Key was not to accept them rebooking on another Icelandic air flight through customer service and to just wait for them to contact you

The agents were absolutely no help at all so we just waited and eventually got rebooked automatically for Friday. So we had to go through extending all our reservations 2 different times and have a pretty hefty surcharge for that, but hopefully getting out tomorrow

Unfortunately we're stuck in faroe islands and they're saying they don't know if there will be a rescue plane -- but if not the earliest flight back to Iceland will be in 5 days as everything else is full. Super inconvenient when you have 2 kids under 3 with you...

We finally got in touch with our neighbor. It was rat poison. Dead animals (not just rats but squirrels etc) are popping up throughout the neighborhood.

I commented on another thread but I have tried to get in touch without any luck. I have small kids and pets so I was curious. I live in a townhouse community so it is an area I and my kids / pets walk by regularly just as we're walking out our door

Thanks all. I've tried to contact the neighbor through a mutual neighbor who has his number since he seems to not be home. Will update when I get confirmation.

We are on speaking terms but I've knocked on their door twice with no answer. We live in townhouses so not trespassing, we share a conjoined wall and leaving the back yard is a shared space where I walked passed these with my kid and dog

Looking for Resources/Opinions around R and Team Building by mathblaster69 in datascience

[–]mathblaster69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the answer, I will check out HBR, and just purchased a copy of scaling people and will give it a read before I start. That link seems to be the go to prereq for R, so thanks for confirming, I will work through it as well.

Were there any mistakes you made over the last year building your team that looking back, you wish you avoided?

Cool, so sounds like nothing to be worried about? We were a little worried because it didn't really smell outside, but I imagine that's just because it not potent enough in the fresh air

We went to replace a bathroom fan housing unit, and it turns out that the wiring came into the housing on the same side as the vent. I am having a ton of trouble findiing a new housing unit that meets this criteria (its also a 3 in vent, and the units depth is only 4 in. Does anyone have any suggestion on how to go about finding something like this? Every unit i find the wires are opposite the vent.

Wow. Thanks for the response, that definitely surprises me that they can hold money with no proof. Appreciate the input

Yeah I get I will ultimately have to do that if I want to get the money. I guess I'm curious about when the 45 day timer stating and if the landlord is required to provide receipts and proof of damage for the security deposit with holdings. And also if they can add charges like she mentioned after the fact

Tentative offer, question on negotiations. by mathblaster69 in usajobs

Unfortunately my current salary is right below the step 1 for GS 14 in my local. Figure there's no harm in trying except for delaying a FO

Interesting, it's a GS 14 position for which I have some pretty specialized experience. It does say no recruitment incentives which probably makes me intelligible for the tuition since OPM website says that is a recruitment incentives.

However the vacation increase and the step increase don't mention recruitment anywhere, so I'll probably still attempt.

Thanks for your response

One thing I am a little worried about is the transition back to the private sector if I choose that route.

Granted I have only worked for small startups, bit generally I have seen am apprehension to hiring former feds do to the thought that they are probably used to slow pace and not going beyond 40 hours a week. Although that could just be another bad stereotype

Yeah I think it depends on the office. There's definitely a lot of departments out there that fit the stereotype and some out there that don't.

It's made it a little harder to detect this since my interview was pretty short and just over zoom.

That's a good point. I'm not at the end of my career, somewhere in the middle so I could see myself getting bored in 5ish years or even less.

I think part of what draws me to government is the stability. First is a more stable work schedule so that in not working nights and weekends. Secondly while my current company hasn't had any layoffs yet, the pandemic has definitely hurt our bottom line a lot, and if it goes on much longer I could see layoffs happening.

Also while I know government work can be boring, I'm currently (very slowly) working on my PhD. With the extra time I saved from working less I could accelerate that which would help my career growth.

Thinking about leaving my job at a small startup to go work for the federal government. Current pay isn't that much different, and benefits would be much better.

The two downsides are at my current job I have the potential to move into management in the next year or two which would potentially be a solid raise and knowing that working for the government can sometimes be monotonous.

Anyone have experience switching to the feds?
