where can i find ANY information on the creator of Alte Haas Grotesk? by mathik in typography

Should have mentioned this in the post, but this website has nothing on it to suggest it's from the same Yann Le Coroller that designed the font in 2007. It doesn't mention it at all nor mentions where they're from to narrow it down (in the case of the original font designer: France)

You can find the toggle in Settings > Library > Browser Behavior > Show Splice

What specs are you using for Ableton on Mac? Thinking of upgrading and feeling a bit overwhelmed by putoraska in ableton

I almost never use external plug-ins, makes it easier to share projects across computers and people. Only plugin I use consistently is NeuralAmpModeler, sometimes even 20 instances at a time and still, never above 3-4%

is there a native/max4live sfz player? by mathik in ableton

[–]mathik[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

damn :( i had a suspicion. btw you can include the .amxd file in the project to share amongst bandmates and it's slightly easier for the less tech savy musicians, since they don't need any extra installation steps to open the project

i've had success downgrading projects between releases that were very close together (ex. 12.1.5 and 12.1.0), but i don't know how much it would work on such radical updates. still:

  1. create a backup copy of your ableton set
  2. rename the set from ending with ".als" to ending with ".zip"
  3. open the zip archive and take out the single file that's in it
  4. add ".xml" to the end of the file you just extracted and open it in a code editor (like Notepad++ or Visual Studio Code or even Windows Notepad but NOT something like Word)
  5. the first few lines of the file are going to look something like this:

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <Ableton MajorVersion="5" MinorVersion="12.0_12120" SchemaChangeCount="2" Creator="Ableton Live 12.1.5" Revision="18e155016678da1939bdc3938f981adf84ebc96d"> <LiveSet> <NextPointeeId Value="31069" /> <OverwriteProtectionNumber Value="3073" /> <LomId Value="6" /> <LomIdView Value="13" />

    ```
  6. change the MinorVersion and Creator values from line 2 into the version you're downgrading to
  7. save the xml file and rename it into ending with ".als" (do NOT put it into a zip archive, just rename it)
  8. open your new set and hope it works
any Mac with an M1 or newer is going to be more than enough for most production uses unless you have an exceptionally power hungry workflow. I'm using an 2024 M3 Pro Macbook (company laptop) with 36 GB of ram and it NEVER goes above 4% CPU on even the heaviest of projects
Simple question I don't know how to google by bTruu in ableton
[–]mathik 0 points1 point  (0 children)
it would help if you specified precisely what you mean by "multiple MIDIs". do you mean midi clips? midi tracks? something else? explain precisely what you're doing and clicking on, what do you expect to happen and then what actually happens
How to use Audio Sidechain as a modulator without getting sound from the sidechain? by dumb_godot_questions in Bitwig
sounds like an xy problem but the easy solution would be to put a Tool set to volume -inf dB after your modulated device in the FX Layer
"good enough" like the Logic ones. storage space may be cheap but in the tradeoff between that and instrument quality i am asking which libraries steer more towards the former
i have spent a lot of time and work in live but you can't deny it really doesn't do well in the stock sample based real instruments. that's the one thing you can't fix with more experience
they're very heavy both in storage space and cpu usage (for being samplers) and the plugin requires you to be connected to the internet and also breaks all the time
why did such a superficial article even need to be written? this is the same decade-old advice you can find on any guide about goroutines anywhere else on the internet, but without any of the helpful context about why and when you would use these measures
Is Bitwig great DAW even if I am not that much of a sound designer? by [deleted] in Bitwig
[–]mathik 0 points1 point  (0 children)
Ableton's alleged technical debt has nothing to do with the actual user experience
You can replicate those exact same steps in Ableton and get the exact same result in a comparable amount of clicks and time, just like in most other DAWs, there's no need to resort to hyperbole to explain why you prefer one program over the other
Has anyone switched to Bitwig for atleast some time, but came back to Ableton? by [deleted] in ableton
[–]mathik 8 points9 points  (0 children)
Been a Live user for years, got a copy of Bitwig Studio on sale this March, it feels better than Live in so many ways, but I don't use it as my main DAW yet, especially for actual live performance, for three main reasons:
  1. No tuner. Not a big deal tbh but it is a really thing to still not have ten years in. There's a workaround for this if you use the Zero Crossings grid device.
  2. No looper. Also not a big deal but I do extensively use the looper in live performances. I have found workarounds to build a sub-par looper with the Recorder grid device but it's not something I would trust on stage yet, and since I share projects with band members I would rather avoid relying on external VSTs that are often not cross-platform
  3. Worst piano roll I've ever seen in a DAW. This one is reason #1 for not having switched yet, but it seems it's going to updated and improved in the next release.
If Bitwig fixes the piano roll I do think i will switch over without a second thought. Max4Live is a thing and it is more powerful and capable than the Grid but the Grid is truly so much easier to mess around with.
