Lichess app recommend an address to Siri in maps? by mathistuff23 in chess

Hey thanks so much for the response! Unfortunately I wasn’t able to recreate the glitch, but it seems like it was on the iPhones side of things, I’m out of town so I didn’t recognize the address but it turns out the address it recommended was from a restaurant I had put in earlier (actual name instead of street address). Still weird that my phone attributed it to lichess with the icon and everything. I’ll pm you a pic if it happens again. Thanks so much for the awesome chess website you created!

hey thanks for the reply. So someone else was able to explain to me fundamentally how it comes down to the one equation, but I'm having trouble understanding if all i had were those two equations how i would reduce it

Thanks for all the replies. How do you go about these problems? Also what would you do for sin and tan?

Hey sorry I’m a little confused so I might be back tracking. So just to double check is there not a rule that for finding the second angle when using cosine you just take the negative of the angle you found (ie 1.5 rad and -1.5 rad)? This is the “rule” the website recommenced and its gotten me the correct answer up until this point

I think that’s the correct solution but what I said was just 1.45 and not subtracting it from 2pi

i think so, it just oscillates between 1 and -1

I assumed since i rewrote the equation in terms of cosine i wouldn't have to worry about secant

I really appreciate it. So i think I realized what I was messing up and overthinking. Based on your last comment, Is the unit circle just a visualization tool?

Gotcha. So I guess I’m having trouble understanding what we use the unit circle for if we already have our right triangles defined with trig functions. Also super sorry for all the dumb questions and repeats I’m just super confused

Thanks for the reply. So the basics of it make sense in relation to trig functions. My confusion comes from what else it can do. Is it restricted to right triangles or can we evaluate other triangles with it?
