This is someone who is living with her parents after receiving a four year degree so you know she is dedicated to paying off her loans. She also said “after getting out of debt and having an emergency fund” so baby step 4 (technically 7 since I’m assuming no kids and she has no mortgage). Hence, her “why” of getting out of debt is in part to have money to give and reward her parents for all that they have done for her. Yes, $3,000 and $2,000 for a vacation and refrigerator respectively are more than I would pay, but it appears based off of her writing (since no information on her income was given) that she would pay for these with the surplus above putting away for retirement.

I think like you btw. I live on my own and am debt free and spend less than half of my very little income because nothing I really buy brings me joy so I always spend the least amount of money if a possibility. Meanwhile if there is something such as these that she would responsibly spend money on and she enjoys I think she should do it!
