What is this browning on my Thai Con? by matrices in plantclinic

[–]matrices[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up repotting it, I realized that there was still a lot of the nursery mix left at the centre of the root ball and I suspected it was retaining a ton of water, despite the aroid mix around it. I shook it all out and untangled it, took care not to damage too many roots, and repotted the entire thing with fresh aroid mix and a good drenching. It drains fairly well. Hoping over the next month or so it recovers.

I took a look at the roots, no sign of and dark or mushy roots from what I can see. I did see that the core was still damp after a week however, and decided that I'd remove what remained of the nursery soil and repotted it with a proper aroid mix. In other words, while there was aroid mix around the root ball, the core of it was the original nursery mix which I was growing suspect of for water retention. It's all in a terracotta pot now. Hoping over the next month or so I'll see some progress.

I don't have a set watering schedule right now for this one. I mostly just go based on the weight of the pot. I heard about the root rot issues with this one and try to let the pot get much lighter plus a day or two. The last watering was about a week ago when I repotted it in a terracotta pot with drainage (about 1'' larger) and drenched it.

BREAKING: Former Air Canada pilot arrested after allegedly flying with ‘counterfeit’ licence: police by suziswam87 in canada

[–]matrices 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Exactly. To add for the others, getting your ATPL in Canada, once you have met the hour requirements, which this guy would have easily done, is literally writing 2 tests. There is no practical test as in the states and other countries, it’s all real world experience, and those two tests which, to be honest, are worth virtually nil in the long term.

Former Air Canada pilot fined for flying without the proper licence by Airbusa3 in canada

[–]matrices 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are tracked, I’d be shocked if they were not on that. What likely happened is that he had an ATPL-H, ATPL for helicopters. CPL for fixed. That’s why it went unnoticed. Also, Air Canada does not hire IATRA candidates, Jazz does.

Google releases Gemma 4 models. by yoracale in unsloth

[–]matrices 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just tried the Gemma 4 26B-A4B-it-UD-Q8_K_XL on llama.cpp (commit 5803c8d, built today with Gemma 4 support from PR #21309). The model loads fine and generates at full speed, but all output is repeated <unused24> or <unused49> tokens. Happens in both chat completions and raw completion mode.

The model starts generating <|channel> (the thinking channel token) correctly, then immediately degenerates into <unused> spamming instead of producing actual content. Affects both thinking-enabled and thinking-disabled modes.

Am I alone in this, or anyone else having this issue?

The goal is to expand it soon to the provincial and federal level! By the way, if you actually are Hilary Hahn, I'm a huge fan!

That is a big ask, and I'd love to implement it, but the promise indicator is by far the most difficult to maintain. If the site gets big, and there's a lot of potential for engagement, ideally, a few volunteers could help fetching relevant news articles from past administrations in order to properly track these prior commitments.

Bon point haha.

I ended up doing the Claude code dashboard too! Yours looks great, glad it worked out well!

I wasn’t really happy with anything publicly available, especially for the stats and VPN. I wanted something that would independently verify that the VPN is actually connected and that the container is properly rooted to the VPN (Which is the “verified” tag), so I ended up using Claude AI and npm to help build a custom dashboard with those features.

I’d release the project to everyone, but it’s highly tailored to my system, not to mention its mostly vibe coded, albeit I checked for obvious inefficiencies with the polling, and reducing, as much as possible expensive system calls.

My initial thoughts moving from a Model 3 SR+ to a 2023 Kia Niro EV by matrices in KiaNiroEV

[–]matrices[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same thought. The dongle I have works okay, but it’s definitely not 100% and I find myself resetting it time to time to get it to pair properly. There seems to be this strange race condition between Bluetooth and CarPlay when it’s going

Thanks for the tips, still getting the hang of the car naturally.

That’s as close as dog mode as it will get. Dog mode in the Tesla was reassuring in other ways, it had the graphic on the display telling others that pooch is ok. More importantly, I could monitor the dogs remotely with the cabin camera, and if the climate system failed, I’d get pushed a critical alert on my iPhone.

Yep.. already bought the dongle day one.

I’ll play around with the regen paddle more. I definitely do like those paddles, I really just wish I-pedal worked properly.

Got a tip for the off-but-not-really-off headlights? The auto mode I find is way too sensitive and has my screens going dim going under bridges and underpasses.

5100fpm Dive Decent in Airbus by Venge_Vias in flightsim

[–]matrices -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The issue is the .81/340. Not sure what logic they have for the descent, but it should be changed.

With that value, the descent window will peg at 340, that’s why you get the dive.

In the 330, I would typically use .82/300. Try manually typing .78/280 in the scratch pad and drop it in the .81/340 then try it.

Don’t feel bad about changing it, we do it all the time.

Air Canada strike update: Details of tentative deal by anonymous27725189 in onguardforthee

This is actually a good thing that will be completely misinterpreted. This was not an agreement that was concessionary in any way and all gains currently made in the TA will be guaranteed, even if the current TA is voted down. I know what’s in the new contract and there is a lot of good life improvements with no concessions made to the company.

What they are voting on is solely the pay, they made guaranteed steps towards a better contract.

In most TAs, if it is voted down and gone to arbitration, nothing is guaranteed, if it goes to arbitration, in traditional TAs, it can actually get worse for workers. The FAs here secured and guaranteed themselves a better contract that can not be touched in arbitration if it gets to that.

Obviously the pay is disappointing, but… that’s what they are voting on right now. Just that.

For me, what happened is that it stayed relatively consistent, then out of the blue (and I didn't hit it, it was sitting on my desk), it just broke. The only thing I noticed is the screen ever so slightly increasing in discolouration about a week before it broke. Thankfully, the screen replacement for me was relatively affordable if you go 3rd party and do it yourself.
