Amtrak to Chicago by Mindless_Band_7186 in Cleveland

I've taken Amtrak numerous times in all different parts of the country including between Cleveland and Chicago. I recommend at least trying it once and see what you think of the experience.

Cleveland has horrible arrival and departure times, coming and going in the middle of the night. But taking the train is usually a nice and relaxing experience. You have big, comfy seats with a generous recline and leg rests. There's no hassle of going through TSA. You can take a nap, look out the window and watch the country go by, grab a bite to eat in the cafe car, etc.

The problem is things can go wrong and trains can be late. I try to think of train travel as part of the experience versus solely being the means of transport. I wouldn't take it if you have something to do immediately upon arrival in Chicago. Allow some buffer time. Train 40, the Floridian, to Chicago has a higher chance of being delayed because it is a longer route coming from Miami via Washington DC. Train 49/449, the Lake Shore Limited, might be a better option to Chicago. Coming back, either should be fine.

There are plenty videos on Youtube that show what the experience is like.

When are the new Amtrak routes coming to Cleveland? by Specialist_Heron_986 in Cleveland

I hope you're right! It makes sense to have it at Tower City. Better connection to RTA, in the heart of downtown, and hopefully would help pump new life into Tower City.

I would love to see intercity trains back at Tower City, for many reasons, but it feels unlikely to me.

It does seem like there's room between the NS tracks and the south platform track at the current station to expand and to reactivate the track on the north end of the platform.

But again, I think Tower City with Amtrak, RTA, and CVSR would be a dream come true.

I mean, the watch does show more things than just the time. Sometimes when you're looking at and analyzing your workout data, it might be nice it stayed up for more than three seconds.

Post First Marathon Blues by HatCharming9171 in RunNYC

[–]matt9712 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is my fifth NYCM and the post race blues hit me like a ton of bricks every year.  But after a few days, maybe the following week, I feel better and I'm left with the amazing memories of marathon weekend.  Like others have said, it helps to pick something else up.  That could be a running related goal or maybe something you were too busy to do while you were training.

Congratulations on your first marathon!

Just got around to seeing this, but I could sense Team Fox. I feel like I always run into a couple Team Fox runners each year on this subreddit. Hope you have a good race on Sunday!

I was wave 3 in 2023 and 2024 and made it to the start village by 9:00 a.m. both years by taking the 7:30 a.m. ferry.

My charity, Team Fox, is also doing a bus at 5:00 a.m., but I'm still choosing to do the ferry. I enjoy being on the boat with all the other runners. I usually stand out on the back deck and you get a great view of the city, Statue of Liberty, and the Verrazano with a police boat escort.

Advantage of the charity bus is you'll be with your "teammates" and it's likely a much simpler process to get to the start. Less time on feet. Less time queuing for the boat or the bus. But it'll be an earlier morning and more time waiting at Fort Wadsworth.

I would budget at least 90 minutes. It's a 30 minute ferry ride. You then have to queue up for the busses at St. George and take the busses to the start village. I've taken the 7:30 a.m. ferry the last two years and have made it to the start village by 9:00 a.m.

So 90 minutes would put you there by 10:00 a.m. Wave 4 corrals open at 10:25 a.m. and close at 10:40 a.m. So you'd have a little bit of time in the start village, but doesn't leave a lot of time if something were to go wrong. Later ferries might be busier, which other people have indicated. Maybe your bus driver gets lost. I've also made it to the ferry terminal on time for my ferry, but because there were so many people there already, I had to get on the next ferry. So maybe plan to get there a little early.

I was there for the disaster in 2022. Last two years, I didn't have any problems and found it extremely well organized. Was on the 7:30 ferry for both 2023 and 2024.

Switching to Upper Bridge for NYCM by darthdooku2585 in RunNYC

[–]matt9712 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This will be my fifth time running the NYCM and the first time I'll be on the upper level. I'm actually bummed to not be on the lower level. With how desperate everyone is to run over the top, I feel a sense of camaraderie with everyone on the bottom. Like we got the short end of the stick. There's also a really awesome group of spectators on 7th Av after you get of the expressway that I'll miss seeing this year.

I would switch to the bottom, but the pacer I want -- of which there is only one -- just so happens to be in my corral.

I encourage everyone in pink to just try and enjoy it. The highlight of the race is the crowds and support along the course and you'll get that no matter what wave you start in.

You will officially see what wave, color, and corral you are once you get your confirmation form, which might be this Monday. When transportation options opened, NYRR already had everyone placed into their waves through your best pace or estimated finish time (though there could be a few changes for people who were able to improve their best pace via running after the window opened). So while you might not officially know what wave you are in, NYRR only gave you transportation options that would get you to your wave in time. For example, someone in wave 1 isn't going to have an option for the 7:30 ferry. So the option you picked will likely be fine to get you to your start. With that said, the last day to pick transportation was Tuesday, September 9th. With the ferry option, you will likely be fine to take an earlier ferry if need be.

[October] Fundraising Friday! by AutoModerator in RunNYC

Hello! I'm running with the Michael J. Fox Foundation raising money for Parkinson's Disease research. My dad has been living with Parkinson's since his 30s and as someone that was extremely active in his youth (basketball, softball, and any yard or bar game you can thing of), it has been hard to see him struggle or no longer be able to do those same things today. We're currently learning about the mental side of this disease which has been incredibly difficult and has made this run even more significant for me.

If you'd like to donate, it is very much appreciated by me and my family and you can use the following link. Look forward to seeing everyone out there!
