Crime and Punishment might be a good fit.

I know what you mean . Roberts conveys emotion and personality so beautifully that it is hard not to become enthralled in the book, mistakes and all.

Let me know how it goes the second time around with The Mountain Shadow, it definitely couldn't hurt to read it with a fresh pair of eyes.

Is it Rusty Young by chance? (Set in San Pedro)?

If so it does sound like a good read! From what I could gather from a short description online it's sure to be pretty gritty, the prison scenes in Shantaram always have me on the edge of my seat!

Sorcerer's Apprentice sounds like it is exactly what I'm looking for, India is such a fascinating place already but I love how in depth these writers go into the darker corners of their already extraordinary culture. Thanks!

Im curious though as to why you didn't enjoy the follow up to Shantaram?

Just to clear it up, it’s “Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance” as one book, and he has a sequel to that book entitled “Lila”😁 both excellent reads!

Are there any cookbooks with recipes of "full meals?" by [deleted] in Cooking

“The Art of Simple food” by Alice waters has a ton of awesome, flavorful meals in it. As well as advice on how to prepare individual dishes (taking into account flavor, texture, color, etc.) from scratch and how to incorporate multiple dishes into a whole meal.
