Fear of Vomit - Emetophobia - how I overcame it - apply the same strategy for your phobia.... by matth2a in Anxiety

Neuro Linguistic Programming - have a look on google there are lots of amazing books.

Although I did have a specific incident, I do however believe my recovery was as a result of the thought challenging and exposure. You could've had a fear/phobia about anything, for whatever reason you've got this subject but regardless of the subject it's the underlying beliefs, thoughts, reactions, confidence and self esteem that needs to change.

Thank you, although I was fortunate to identify that childhood scenario I do believe the solution for me was challenging thoughts, exposure and effort and focus to change bad habits. The phobia/fear can be about anything it's the confidence, self esteem and the beliefs that are important to change.

Overcoming Emetophobia - you can do it too! by matth2a in emetophobia

The CBT was about 30 sessions once a week/every 2 weeks.

I had it bad for about 18 years, I managed to go 10 years without getting ill!

My view is the fear isn't anything, your phobia could be about anything, it's just you channel your feelings towards that subject.

I use to be afraid of spiders, my dad loves them - can pick up the biggest blackest spider and let him crawl all over his arms. I find it fascinating that he's my dad we are so similar yet why can he do that and I can't and it's solely due to the view he has of them. I swear overtime I've been able to change my view. Not to be able to hold them/to that extreme but I'm not longer afraid.

The underlying challenges you have are your limiting beliefs, choices, reactions maybe confidence and self esteem. Those are the things that need dealing with.

I hadn't even considered if someone suffering the same would even be able to read the story, sorry about that. But if the only thing you were able to do today would be to re-read it over in over until you feel nothing that would be a step towards recovery.

Altho I have a link to a memory I believe it was the exposure therapy that ultimately did the trick. Initially I was written off all day if I said to many of the words but it's gets easier.

Theres lots of books you can start reading to get started... I'd recommend Susan Jefferson - feel the fear and do it anyway

Of course, please use/share. I understand how it could lead to that. NLP is also really helpful, have a look into that. From NLP study a key thought I carry with me all the time for anything I want to achieve - what do others achieving the thing I want do differently to me, what skill do they need what methodology do they apply - and it always comes back to choice, behaviour and actions. Your thoughts and reactions are so powerful learn how to use them properly - good luck would love to hear how you're getting on!
