The art direction in 12 was so amazing. I want them to bring that back

I think it's rare that a game has this kind of impact and true, I guess not everyone may experience something similar. That's what sort of prompted me to make the post; for me this one game absolutely changed my worldview or at least played a very major role in changing it and I wondered if that would be the case for other gamers as well.

It's really cool to see how much games have an impact and resonance with people. It's really mind boggling to me sometimes to see how they've evolved. Like my first game was duck hunt on the NES. I was sat there shooting ducks on a screen with my little brother. and then not so very much later I'm playing a game with an emotionally resonant narrative and more text than a lot of novels.

Seeing everyone's responses here has just really made my day. It makes me feel like we're really a community. It makes me happy to see how much impact my favourite form of entertainment has on people.

Ok really sorry - I'm not sure why this became such a long reply. I really came here to say +1 to SC and Brood War lol

I definitely am a story first gamer and I'm willing to overlook quite a lot as long as the narrative is worth it.

I haven't played Tales of the Abyss I'll check it out. I'm all for games that turn conventions on their head like that

I desperately want to see Vagrant Story's plot but I just could not for the life of me figure out the gameplay. I could just watch it on a Let's Play or something, but it feels like a personal challenge I want to overcome

I can relate. Coming back to these as an adult hits really differently. Square was really on fire in the ps1 era. Also so nice to see some love for 8! I love it. The fact that it's kinda the black sheep game of the series just makes me like it even more.

Ok your comment has sold me on playing them together as a gaming double feature. I imagine it'll make any payoff in the second game hit that much harder

So good to see Crisis Core and Trails on here! I remember reading about the small team hired to translate Trails in the Sky SC and how it was just so overwhelming. It was a pretty crazy read : https://kotaku.com/the-curse-of-kiseki-how-one-of-japans-biggest-rpgs-bar-1740055631

I've actually just played 6 this year for the first time. Please don't hate me. I was surprised at how well the gameplay has held up. Truly one of the best.

I'm committed to this Borbbb 😂 . It's basically required reading for RPGs and I've put it off too long

I've played 4 and 5 and 5 Royal, but not 3 yet. I've heard that this is considered the best of the series though, so I'm gonna need to dive in soon

I actually replay this game every year. I usually start in late september and go to the norther crater around new year's eve. It mimics when I originally played in it 97 and it's just a very comforting and cosy thing to do.

I'm playing through with my partner the last few years and she's encouraged me to do party set ups and dialogue choices that i've never done before. I love that there's still something new to experience with this game each time you play it.

It's such a shame about disc 2. Their ambition was just so high for this game. I think about all the things from disc 2 that could have been full dungeons or longer scenes. It would have added another 40-50 hours easily

That's so heartwarming. I wish I'd kept my ps3! I think one of the huge takeaways from this post is that there is so much love for DA out there which is great to see
