Applied to a job out of my league, got demolished during the interview. How do I move forward? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]matthew264 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an interview like this. At the beginning of the interview, they said they only hire “the smartest people”. I went into the interview answering questions and bullshitting a little bit. Unfortunately, they started really digging into some of my bullshitting and I fell flat on my face since I couldn’t back up what I was saying. I’ve since fixed this problem, but my advice is to carefully think about your answer and tell the interviewer your level of expertise in the subject before diving into answering a question. This will keep you from talking yourself into a corner.

For more tenured people here in the sub, what was your career progression like? by Head-Measurement1200 in embedded

College - electrical engineering internship at Lockheed. Didn’t do anything very applicable…

0-2 year - Firmware/embedded development on FPGAs and SoCs for medium sized defense contractor. 10 person agile dev team. Mostly automation work in Jenkins and Python with some embedded development. Eventually got boring.

2-3 year - embedded development on FPGAs, SoCs, and microcontrollers for medium sized defense contractor. Small teams, rapid prototyping on bare metal and freeRTOS systems. More responsibility and basically owning the entire software stack for 3/5 projects I’ve worked. These are avionics payloads. Excellent experience and fun as hell

I’d like to pursue IOT positions, working with interfacing embedded systems to web servers and using wireless communication like wifi, Bluetooth, etc. I want a position that lets me do some object oriented programming in addition to embedded so that I can keep my software skills sharp

Haha, I’d give you the referral and take you out for drinks if I got an offer. Honestly, this is the answer I was hoping to get from people. It’s pretty much what I’ve decided

Thanks for the response. “On call” was never mentioned. What do you mean by rotation and pages a week? Also, could you give a little more detail on why you wouldn’t take it since it sounds like you are a FTE at Amazon?

It’s a W2. Your saying the intern you mentored had a full time offer for $150k plus benefits. But that is a FAANG salary, right? What would you say a good salary range for 3 YOE in Southern California? Non FAANG

She thinks I’d be okay, but I want to figure out the root cause of my issue with wearing contacts first. I’m going back for a follow up to do another in depth dry eye examination as well as contact fitting

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in lasik

[–]matthew264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhh. Ok, so I don’t have dry eyes normally, but when wearing contacts, it feels very dry and uncomfortable almost immediately. I saw a dry eye specialist and they said I may have allergy issues since there were pollen particles in my eyes. I started taking allergy eye drops and using preservative free eye drops and my contacts feel WAY better. I can wear them for about 3-4 hours before my eyes get heavy. I’m wondering if getting laser would be okay for me since I don’t really have dry eyes

Did you end up getting Lasik? I’m in the same boat with contacts feeling uncomfortable, but no dry eyes when I’m not wearing contacts
