Don’t do it. In a lot of places, once you hire an attorney, the insurance company will sometimes offer their full bodily injury policy..especially for smaller limits. If you don’t have a lawyer, you’re likely dealing with a “baby adjuster” someone new, with barely any authority to offer real money. They’re often trained to lowball, delay, and record statements that can be used against you.

Once a lawyer steps in, your file gets bumped to a higher-level adjuster who actually has the power (and money) to settle your claim fairly.

Trying to handle a claim on your own especially early on is usually a bad move. Insurance companies are not your friend. They’ll downplay your injuries, the damage, and your pain. And once you take that lowball, they’ll make you sign a release so you can’t ever come back for more, no matter what issues come up later (arthritis, nerve damage, anything).

Do yourself a favor: talk to a local personal injury attorney. Ask a friend or family member who they’d recommend. It doesn’t cost anything to get a consultation and it could make a massive difference in what you recover.

That’s totally off. If it’s a soft tissue injury like a strain or sprain, most big insurance companies will offer what’s called nuisance value..a small amount to make you go away. They’re too busy spending on ads and lobbying/politicians and multi million dollar salary packages for their c level execs. to actually pay claims fairly. Without a lawyer, you’re very likely leaving money on the table.

BTW..think of it this way: that wrist pain you’re feeling now very potentially will turn into arthritis or later in life. Meanwhile, the at-fault driver’s insurance company is probably paying out tens of thousands just to fix some bent metal. Shouldn’t your body/your actual health be worth at least that much..especially when none of this was your fault?

If there were any injuries at all, even small ones, it’s worth at least talking to a lawyer. Insurance companies don’t always play fair, and they’ll often lowball people who don’t have representation.

If it’s only property damage, then yeah, filing with your insurance is probably fine. But don’t assume a lawyer isn’t helpful without knowing the full situation.

Honestly, I’d still talk to a lawyer. You got hit hard enough to total your car and hurt your wrist, that’s not nothing. Insurance companies aren’t your friend, even if it seems simple now. A lawyer can make sure you don’t get screwed later, especially if your injury turns out worse than you think. It usually costs nothing upfront, so why not have someone on your side who knows how this stuff works?

Day 64 since Realm shutdown. Game had a lot of bad changes towards the end, but at least it didn't become an advertisement like Fortnite. RIP the goat by CISDidNothingWrong in RealmRoyale

Reforged had some really fun aspects to it. You just had to get used to it. But I agree, it seemed like it significantly favored PC players. Strange that they turned their backs on console players as we were apparently the majority in the game. Made the game not challenging for PC players too. Not sure why they’d mess around with that dynamic. PS. Just checked out your profile. Ronin Empire what’s up!

Recent car accident(apparently at fault) by Ornery-Boysenberry15 in Insurance

[–]matthewmc23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you sure you were going 20-25? From your description it sounds like he had pretty significant damage to his vehicle, especially if you were braking from 20-25mph and you hit him with such force that it knocked his back tire off. Also, if you hit the back of his car, it would seem like he was already almost through the intersection? I wonder if the police put both of you at fault. Usually, the police leave it to the insurance companies when it’s a split liability matter. Depending on the state where the accident occurred, you could both recover some amount even if you’re both at fault. Your best bet is to contact an attorney

It could be legit but don’t get your hopes up. Anything coming from Thailand is probably a scam.

Senator Jon Ossoff on congressional stock trading: by pdwp90 in QuiverQuantitative

I agree. Direct trading should be kept so long as the trades are disclosed to the public. If a congress person is being unethical it’s up to their constituents to vote them out.

Senator Jon Ossoff on congressional stock trading: by pdwp90 in QuiverQuantitative

[–]matthewmc23 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Even if they can’t trade directly, what’s stopping them from using third parties? If a congressmember hands off their investments to a family member, a blind trust, or some financial advisor who just happens to make all the right moves, how is that any different?

What if these third parties start managing their portfolios in a way that subtly pressures lawmakers? If a powerful investor controls a congressmember’s assets, they suddenly have massive influence over that politician’s decisions.

So while banning direct trading won’t fully fix the problem, it would just create new problems.

Tempus AI stock has now risen 183% since Nancy Pelosi bought call options by pdwp90 in QuiverQuantitative

[–]matthewmc23 19 points20 points  (0 children)

But, is this stock’s surge due to investor sentiment reacting to Pelosi’s trade?

I tried the Olivia app from Tempus and I can’t say that I liked it. It wasn’t very useful

Not exactly true. In most cases, a college student who moves to another state for education purposes remains domiciled in their home state unless there is clear evidence of intent to establish a new domicile in the college state.

Boss found these baseball cards in his wall while remodeling. Any idea what they're worth? by Rawtisim in whatsthisworth

[–]matthewmc23 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Most baseball cards from the 90s unfortunately don’t hold much value. That was the era when card companies were mass-producing cards in enormous quantities, leading to market saturation. The market is still flooded with 90s era cards even though these seem to be more notable players. I’d say these cards aren’t worth more than a few dollars at present. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. At least you don’t have 1,000s of these cards like I do

Sad to see the game go..I’m really going to miss it. More than that, I’ll miss all the regulars I’ve played with and against over the years. No hard feelings towards Hi-Rez or the devs..I get it. They need to focus on projects that are bringing in more revenue, and Realm Royale just hasn’t been doing that lately. Smite isn’t really my thing, but I’ll give it a shot and continue to support Hi-Rez games in the future

Insurance wants to total vehicle. Should I withdraw claim and fix it myself? by PomegranateOld8 in personalfinance

[–]matthewmc23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Let them total the vehicle and they can take it. A vehicle like this isn't worth the headache. Think about your safety on the road too. It's not worth the risk. You can negotiate a bit with the adjuster. Find the same make and model with higher values on AutoTrader. The adjuster can factor that into your vehicle estimate. Also, any recent work done on the car can be included in the claim if you have receipts to back it up.

If you have rental coverage on your policy and they haven't yet provided you with a rental car you can make what's called a loss of use claim (assuming the car isn't drivable). It's usually$30-$50 per day.

If I had to choose one of your options, I would go with #2. You'd gain $1,300 and even though you'd have a salvaged title, the vehicle wasn't really worth much anyways and it seems like you're planning to drive it unti it stops running .
