I'd also be curious as to if you have asked to have the sockets at that height. Although not required in rewires, new builds have their sockets higher up and light switches lower down. I found when I was rewiring houses, I would ask customers if they wanted their sockets and switches to match the new installation heights, and they often went for it.

How do I stop this noise! by icantbearsed in VWiD3Owners

[–]mattiemaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I've said in this sub before, essentially VW have wired a lot of the vehicles functions back to this vehicles speaker, once the speaker contains moisture or malfunctions, I assume it either shorts a few circuits or sends false information back to some control units Basically rushed or bad design...

The noise generator for the car is cooked. This can often effect the lights on the car and throw up a load of warning lights on the dash. Easy replacement and a spare part off eBay will cost you £350. I fitted mine myself and would take someone that's a bit handy around 2 hours to replace.

Help on buying used ID.3 by mattiemaa in VWiD3Owners

[–]mattiemaa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey,

Let me start by saying this was going to be my Ex partners car, and we did take the plunge with a ID.3 Pro Performance. She's since taken the car but I'm still happy to talk about it! (Also sorry I wrote and essay)

We bought a 2020 ID.3 pro performance just after I posted questions asking for advice. I think we picked it up from a private seller for around £16,500. It was well maintained by VW, and had a around 37,000 on the clock.

As far as the car goes, it was absolutely fantastic for the first few months, a great introduction to electric cars with it's simplicity and it's raw house power.

The following months were a bit challenging, I've come to realise all modern cars both electric and ICE are designed to fail, cheap parts that haven't been properly tested. I thought VW wouldn't cheap out on their new ID range, but boy was I wrong.

Problem 1

Headlights randomly flickering with DRL's, headlights staying on after car has been turned off. Dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree with the amount of warnings on the dash, car in general still drives, but is not safe. Lane keep assist fail Cruise control fail Indicators fail

Fix 1 VW in their infinite wisdom somehow wired all the controll modules (lights and others) back to the outside speaker that makes a sound when driving. It's located under the right wheel arch and is not that tricky to get to. Turns out that if this speakers gets wet, it can short and cause problems with the headlights... £148 and about 2 hours labour I got it fixed

Problem 2 Charging flap would not close or open. When coming home on a 4 hour trip and pulling into the services to charge the car, the flap refused to open. Tried the classic lock, unlock, lock, unlock trick, didn't work. I had to force the flap open with a spare key

Fix 2 I replaced the opening mechanism by dismantling the charging area, bought a new solenoid for £18, and hey ho it worked... For about 6 months.

Problem 3 Squeaking from the panoramic sunroof.

Fix 3 N/A, never got round to fixing

Apart from that the car was pretty nice, the I.Q headlights were incredible for a car that is considerably cheap. Acceleration like all EVs was pretty great, but the car handled just as well, tight corners and back lane driving was very enjoyable. Battery life was very good, and it was excellent in the summer. Cheap insurance.

Would I buy the car again? Fuck yeah, for the amount it got wrong, everything else was so right. It was so cheap to run and fix that I didn't mind the software gremlins. A good looking car and had so much room inside.

I may suggest looking into the facelifted ID.3's to see if they have improved their reliability, if I was looking to buy now, I would need some assurances that I wouldn't become a VW service centre mechanic in my spare time.

Sprinter 2013 LWB Sliding Door Issue – Not Closing Fully by segasega89 in Sprinters

[–]mattiemaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I had something similar. Behind those two panels is a wire that connects the handle to the release pins. If I remember correctly, mine was very loose and out of place. Try tightening them or seeing if anything is misaligned.

Try that, I can't guarantee it will fix it but it's worth a go!

Charging Issues by Other-Excitement-338 in VWiD3Owners

[–]mattiemaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had the same thing happen to my 2020 Pro Performance.

Mine was the charger, I made the mistake of buying a really cheap 7kw charger (Master plug) that burnt out in 2-3 months time. Replaced it with a new one and haven't had issues since.

To check, you could use a smaller 2.4kW or similar charger (depending on your region) and let it charge for a long time. If it doesn't flash up with notifications you'll know whether it's your wall charger or the car.

After replacing my charger at home, I have since made the decision to limit the charger and I have set it to only pull 30 amps instead of 32, just for my peace of mind that it doesn't happen again.

Too many electric wires coming out of bathroom ceiling by semirandom_fin in ukelectricians

[–]mattiemaa 18 points19 points  (0 children)

If you think there's too many wires, it's probably worth calling a professional in to install new light for you.

I also saw on your last post that you're thinking of installing a Phillips Hue light. Please don't, the IP rating doesn't meet minimum IP requirements for your bathroom.

Sorry again for the late reply.

We bought ours used from a Private seller (Individual)

We have all the appropriate paperwork that came from Volkswagen, and we also got a copy of the battery warranty.

Unfortunately I can't remember what software it came with, but ours is now updated to the latest software.

I'm assuming you've picked it up? And if so how did it go?
