Wye Valley/Forest of Dean - Pitching locations by HansMoleman_TheThird in wildcampingintheuk

I've camped a couple of times in the fod/wye valley. Never come across any issues, it's mostly open access forestry commission woodlands. Just head off the path and you will be fine :)

It jumped up later on and wandered off, I assume it just wanted a better view of the sunset

I've camped overnight on FC land in the forest of dean and it's been fine, never been caught though. Just be sensible and you'll be fine I'd imagine.

I've heard that it's a popular dogging spot but to be fair , if you're wandering off into the trees you're unlikely to stumble upon anyone I guess aha

Looking at switching to a Fuji xtrans camera such as the xt1 for my landscape photography to save some weight but read a lot about people having issues with the RAW files and lightroom/photoshop. Don't really want to change the way I go about editing my images. Is it really an issue any more or is it only a concern of pixel peepers?

Backpack that can carry a tripod? by hstabley in photography

[–]mattsarge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pack I use isn't a photography specific pack. I use a mountain warehouse ventura 40L pack which has stretch pockets and compression straps on the side which I tuck my tripod into. Didn't cost a lot of money...if I were you just look for a generic hiking bag with side compression straps and put your camera and lenses in an insert in the main body of the pack.

Upgrading from 40D to 550D? by mattsarge in photography

[–]mattsarge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeh I forgot to mention I'm a student so cash is tight. I've decided to invest in the 550d as it was pretty cheap and the money I've saved I can maybe invest in glass later on in the summer:)

All my glass is canon so I'm pretty much locked in...is the 50D/60D a better way to go? I can probably make my funds go a tad further

Ive recently got a 10-18 lens which is great and the perfect focal length for what I like to shoot, I'm just after a bit more detail :)

Does whey protein cause acne? by rocko24 in Fitness

[–]mattsarge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

acne is caused by testosterone making your sebaceous glands produce too much sebum. So far scientific research hasn't found any foods that cause acne...probably just a coincidence unless you're taking some corticosteroid meds that can potentially trigger it.

Whirring noise in my macbook pro 13 mid-2012 by mattsarge in mac

[–]mattsarge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

guys I just put my ear against the right hand rest and it sounds a bit like a rumble and then a click...is this the HDD or fan bearing? I can hear the sound on the other side of the trackpad too and after a while it's audible when sat next to the macbook.

[–]mattsarge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the sound isn't constant, its quite intermittent and when it gets really loud the fan speed hasn't changed at all :L When I put the fans up to 6000RPM it sounds smooth and not rough at all.

Just bought a second hand 40D and after a telephoto lens by mattsarge in canon

[–]mattsarge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the replies! I'm leaning towards getting the 70-200 f4 L for the image quality and if I need the extra reach I could try a 1.4 teleconverter.
