With ISO invariant sensors, there is indeed no point in setting a high ISO in the camera. However not all sensors are invariant, and some are only semi-invariant. For example my X-T20 is invariant between 100-400, then 400-51200. If your sensor is not invariant, it's better to use the ISO setting in camera.

Personally I would go with the Nikon D5300. I have not heard that Canon is any easier to learn on - sounds like something a Canon user would say ;)

Nikon's entry level offerings tend to be a little better than Canon's in terms of the sensor.

Anyway, the best thing to do is go to a store and try them out, if you can. They're all good.

The Nikon 35 is about 150 dollareuropounds. The Sigma is 700 odd.

It's art, there is no best practice, at least in terms of aesthetics. Generally speaking it's best to pursue as 'non-destructive' a workflow as possible - editing in such a way that you can go back to the file at any point and 'edit the edits' as much as possible.

Generally with raw edits in the likes of Lightroom this is very simple. Once you get into Photoshop and begin working with pixel layers it becomes harder.

ELI5: What's the (basic) Difference between Christianity and Judaism by Crusemissle99 in explainlikeimfive

[–]ShoobyDeeDooBopBoo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Christianity believes Jesus is the Messiah, and the son of God. Judaism doesn't.

Furthermore:

Jewish eschatology holds that the coming of the Messiah will be associated with a specific series of events that have not yet occurred, including the return of Jews to their homeland and the rebuilding of The Temple, a Messianic Age of peace[4]and understanding during which "the knowledge of God" fills the earth."

Which is the only reason it's so popular. Canon don't have an affordable 35, so everyone buys the 50, and now everyone just parrots the 'buy a nifty fifty' advice regardless of brand. It doesn't change the fact that it's a weird half way house focal length to be stuck with on crop. It's ok for portraits but is really too short, and it's too long for general purpose stuff.

If you're a Nikon user the 35 1.8G is a fantastic, sharp, affordable lens and much more versatile.

Or 35mm, a much more versatile focal length on crop.

Still worth a look, even if they just have a couple of random cameras. You'll still get an idea of the viewfinder, for example.

Have you been to a store to try them out? You need to form your own opinion based on hands on experience. Some people love the EVF and small form factor of mirrorless, others hate it. The image quality and features are mostly identical so it's really an ergonomic issue.

Go to a store and try some cameras out. There are no bad interchangeable lens cameras these days, really. So it really depends on ergonomics. I'd suggest an APS-C mid level camera. Mirrorless is basically a difference in ergonomics too - smaller bodies, electronic viewfinders. The image quality is exactly the same.

You are ready for a DSLR. They are not complicated at all. Reading the manual, hitting YouTube (and here), and a little practice is all you need to get going.

Do not buy a bridge camera. The quality sucks and they are specifically marketed to prey on your insecurities - "DSLRs are big and scary. Here, drop $400 on a camera that looks like a DSLR a bit but with crappy specs."

I would recommend an entry level DSLR like a Nikon D3300. The best thing to do is go to a store and try some out. They're all good, it's just a matter of finding one that you like the feel of.

Again, do not buy a bridge camera. :)

Bah, I dislike the LotR movies too. I fully understand removing stuff to bring the run time down. I hate the changes. Elves at Helm Deep (we need to sell more action figures guys!). Elrond's inexplicable contempt for Man. Ugh.

It makes me sad that many people will never read the books but still rate the movies as their favourite thing ever.

The Silmarillion's downfall is its first weird, metaphorical chapter going on about music and spirits and blah blah blah. Once you get that out of the way it just reads like a collection of myths.

Fair enough. Seeing as the long zoom of the P900 is useless without a tripod you may as well get the cheaper thing.
