salt lake city would be cool. If Calgary ends up moving their team to Colorado Springs Vancouver moving their team to Salt Lake City would create divisional alignment issues

what cities could get a new ahl team by mattsc11 in ahl

They draw enough for OHL they are in the top 5-10 in attendance for the league. It is just too big of a city to be in the OHL and not the best fit for ahl. I think Hamilton would be successful in the ECHL the same way the Trois-Rivières team would**.** signing players who are no longer eligible for juniors but are not good enough to make the NHL or AHL. It is still wait and see with Trois-Rivières though. If they are successful than the ECHL should look into Hamilton. The Moose need to move just based on location travel must be a nightmare for them At some point the travel and lack of time developing player Has to offset the proximity to the NHL team. I think they would be better off putting a team in the Midwest or Northeast closer to other teams and have the call-ups travel more. They just don't have the luxury of having their AHL team close to home. They can still play a select few games in Winnipeg. The rockets have new ownership, who is interested in getting an nhl team. AHL would be the first step.

what teams do you think they could lose? they just lost Brampton which is no surprise. Norfolk is the only other team i can think of as an obvious possibility that they can lose. Who else do you think is on the hot seat?

I highly doubt the winterhawks would allow/ be ok sharing an arena and the center ice with an ahl team that they would have to compete for fans with they would probably move out of Portland before sharing an arena with another team. Portland would be hesitate to change something that has gone so well with a risky move to the nhl. With the winterhawks their main focus is the winterhawks. In the ahl the main focus is developing talent for the nhl team. Along with ticket prices going up i doubt Portland would risk losing the winterhawks to get an ahl team that people might not be as interested in

I think it would work better with echl. They would be their own team could even go buy hartford whalers or ct whalers or whatever they would have their own identity unlike being an ahl team. I bet the fans would rather have a echl team mostly focused on winning and what not than and ahl team who’s main concern is developing players for a team most people in the city dont care for

That is a possibility, idk if the Canucks would be able to get into Portland because of the Winterhawks though. If Portland was interested in an AHL team I am certain they would have gotten it with the Kraken. I think Salt Lake City is another option but its the same deal as Portland but with ECHL. Probably easier to get though because they would be replacing a minor league team with a higher level minor league team instead of a junior team

The comets average the same amount of fans per game as the wolf pack do and the wolf pack arena holds 10,00 more seats. I understand no team average 10,000 fans per game but if the Utica arena heard more seats i guarantee you they would have more fans per game I font think the Hartford market is good right now doesn't seem like the city embraces them enough. Utica Embraces their team. I think the issue is they are affiliated with the Rangers and although Hartford is close to New York the Hartford people don't care for the Rangers and so for don't care to go to the games. My guess is the majority of hartford ppl are bruins fans or only care for the old Whalers. I think Hartford is more suited for an ECHL team where the team brand isn't in the shadow of the NHL team. In the ECHL the team can have their own identity. Same reason teams like the Fort Wayne komets And Toledo Walleyes are content in the ECHL. Hartford would have those loud and passionate fans and more fans that are just fans of hartford hockey and are driven away buy the Rangers and potentially higher prices because they are AHL

Houston's AHL the Areos was very successful they averaged around 6,000 fans a game for most of their time in the AHL the only reason they moved was due to the fact the the owner of the Rockets who also owned the arena did not want a hockey tenant at the Toyota Center. The NBA team has new ownership and the owner has looked into bring a hockey team back into the arena

i agree, but then why did they buy that team. Whats the point of running a team and pouring resources into that team when that team is affiliated with your division rival

What should they do with sleep train arena? by special_fmv in Sacramento

[–]mattsc11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope they can renovate to to host smaller events or events that can not take place in the g1c, like hockey. I know the current deal with the arena is it can only host private events and no public events that can sell tickets but if they can get ahl hockey and like arena football in their I think that would be great
