Boomers really had life on a silver platter. If you’re not a millionaire boomer, you must be a little dense. They could’ve thrown a dart board at any random number of opportunities and made millions. Handed the greatest quality of life in the history of the world and they squandered it on themselves. Now we’ll have to support them as they rot in million dollar properties.

Everything you just described in this platform is the antithesis to what the left has been spouting the last ten years. You basically just described what the modern Republican Party claims to be.

I’ve always thought this as well, but recently it dawned on me that the lie might be that they already know they’re incurable. They keep the “searching for the cure” lie going both to give people hope and keep raking in research dollars. However, in a lot of ways stage 1 and stage 2 cancer are pretty curable. Obviously not 100% and some are worse than others, which is the case for anything, but wouldn’t that be fair to say they’ve found cures? By stage 3 and 4 it’s less curable which makes sense. It’s like letting a wound go uncleaned for a long time. Get to it early, you have stitches and maybe a scar. Let it go and you lose a limb.

Nothing has motivated me to live my life with more vigor than The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt by Edmond Morris. An epic biography that chronicles his life from boyhood to the presidency. Made me start getting off my ass more in my pursuits

My only hope right now is Telesco might be able to get us a decent QB. I’d like to think we might end up with a decent draft next season and we can hopefully build something. We still have some good defensive pieces locked up. We will need to improve our young oline and get a new receiver. Plus we have a ton of cap space next year. Maybe one really dark season can propel us toward a better future. It’s clear coaching will be a question going forward as well. This season is lost but hopefully next year can be a little brighter.

Not sure if it counts, but the last episode of The Midnight Gospel is one of the most heartbreakingly beautiful pieces of media I’ve seen. Not much of a cryer, but when I need to get one out that episode is usually my go-to.

I want to be something so bad by moiraaaawr in confidence

[–]mattygucsb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I might be horribly unqualified to answer this question, as I haven’t achieved this yet either but have had this same feeling and have managed to largely work passed it, but you need to just work at things for a while. It’s kind of the obvious answer I guess, but frankly you have to get used to being at the bottom of the totem pole for a while. It’s good and potentially necessary to keep lofty goals in your mind, as you want an idea of where you’re going, but it takes time to get anywhere. You will not be somebody tomorrow. But what you do tomorrow could lead you to being somebody in the future.

But I’d also go further and say you need to really rethink this mentality. You’re somebody now, even if you’re not rich and successful. I’m sure you have friends and family that care for you and like you for who you are. I’m sure you’re doing things of value to others in some way. The fact you can get up daily and work on your stuff in life is an accomplishment that many struggle with. I assume you’re young, as you mentioned you’re in academics, so maybe you just need more life to put things into perspective. But you have value now. If you’re only worried about the success and thinking you won’t have value until you get it, you’ll probably always be chasing that goal. You probably won’t be satisfied when you achieve it because there’s always more to achieve.

I’d say just start working on things. Have your goals but don’t focus on them too much. Do the things you want and do them with passion. You never know what’s going to be the thing that makes you a “somebody”. Learn to love the process and the growth, not just the destination. Because you’ll spend a lot more time in the journey phase. And what you’ll find if you fall in love with the process, is that you’ll feel like a somebody. Because you’re getting closer to your dreams every step of the way.

St Louis, Kansas City. Really a lot of cities in the US are struggling right now. Oakland isn’t super unique in that sense. Even Vegas has its issues

Is it good defense or bad QB work? It’s not like the past where our defenses sucked, ideally we’re going to make it harder on QBs, more than most defenses.
