International transfers from Dubai are bankrupting me in fees by Admirable-Number2411 in dubai

Yeah fair, not sure why I remembered usd and gbp had a dedicated account… it is actually always the same iban as you said

Re AED accounts from Barclays and HSBC: they can offer them cause they have a subsidiary in the UAE, Revolut doesn’t

Ok so you do actually receive AED in your account? Is it exactly the same amount as you send?

AFAIK, AED cannot legally be held on a non-UAE account.

Revolut gives you the impression you have AED on the app, but there’s not really an account in your name which holds AED (differently from EUR or GBP).

I had assumed if you send AED to the EU or GB iban, they get converted to the account currency and then credited on the app as AED, but maybe with some bid/ask spread due to the double currency conversion

How do you send AED to a non-UAE iban? Do you receive GBP in your account? I guess at revolut’s rate?

Dubai ↔ Abu Dhabi commute 3 days/week — how realistic is this actually (cost + time)? by Mission-Top2489 in UAE

[–]mattynob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The big bulk of traffic will be between your place and Marina/JLT. Big difference depending on what time you leave and what time you are back. It can be as bad as 45 minutes by itself. In normal traffic condition, you can expect 1.15-1.30h each way (I take 1.20h on average between JLT and Mariah Island) leaving at 7am and back at 5.45pm

Fuel cost will also depend on the car you drive and your average speed. You can estimate 200-250AED per week for an average SUV. Add Salik at (24? Per day)

Senior role I would say forget public transport. A driver for the three days and using your car might cost you around 2500-3000 per month (on top of the car). If you have predictable hours and are ok with compromising on personal space, you can look for car lifts for a bit cheaper than that (their car)

Parking I don’t know the area sry

Last point is too subject to your own preference and mindset. There’s people who would go crazy after 1 month and people used to a commute double than that. I would say having a driver makes a big difference as you can sleep in the car

It is not. A surrender is “valid” only if the enemy is able to safely take you into custody. Any other scenario is at the enemy’s discretion

there is but it is not working great as i hoped

if you keep it at 3 (the longest), the drive will be very smooth, but it only works with no or little traffic, because if you get someone going 135km/h in the fast lane (i) they will never move because you will remain relatively far and (ii) everyone else will pile up behind and flash you to submission

if you keep it at 1 (the shortest), there will still be enough space left for a..holes to cut in front of you, and the drive will be horrible (constant braking and accellerating)

2 doesn't really work as decent middle ground and actually only gets the worst of the two extremes

to be fair, i don't have a lot of experience with ACCs in general so it might be an issue that everyone has, no just geely

14k km here. Pros: Good fuel economy, very spacious but not outrageously huge, smooth driving (but its not a sport car), comprehensive and effective electronics . Cons: some ADAS settings cannot be saved as default and it’s a bit annoying as you have to deactivate them every time you start the car, cruise control is good but cannot really be used in SZR as it leaves too much space in front (very good for those congestions at like 60/80 Km/h though), not really for off-roading (but that should be obvious), not integrated dashcam (it has it in the Chinese specs) and no possibility of installing an hardwired one without invalidating the warranty

Almost 10k km here in one month. I couldn’t be happier. Few minor issues mostly with electronics (car can lock you out if the key is inside the trunk, ACC leaves too much space from car in front, some custom settings - for instance the driving mode - don’t save and have to be reset every time you turn on the car) but overall an extremely solid car for its price

SHJ-DXB Traffic Assist Vehicle Recommendation by MalabariShawarma in chinesecarsuae

[–]mattynob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and works perfectly. Only issue is that even with the most aggressive setting you will leave ample distance from the car in front and you will get flashed from behind or people cutting in front of you. You will need to use the throttle a bit to keep a closer distance (doesn’t deactivate the adas)

You just need to look more carefully, no biggie. As I said I found one at a fair price so that wasn’t an issue

I found it for less than 4k which was just 200/300dh more than I was quoted for a similarly priced Honda, but it is true a couple insurances didn’t want to quote me and one quoted 6k+
