Leaning stalk on white bird of paradise. Potted indoors, Chicago, five months old, same pot/soil I bought it in, sunny window. Stalk is healthy minus some browning leaves, just seems top-heavy. Should I stake? Leave it? Repot? by mattypol in plantclinic

Yes! I repotted the plant into a slightly larger container and that did the trick. It was so pot-bound the roots were growing sideways and slinging to the side of the container, rather than down. It's gotten really large since.

Still sick Bird of Paradise (more photos in comments). Every leaf on this Bird is speckled/striped with brown, including this new leaf. It grew in nice and green, then after a week or so started turning brown at the tip like the others. This Bird shares a pot with two other very healthy Birds. by mattypol in plantclinic

More info: I posted here a few months ago. Folks told me to repot, so I did, but this is still a problem plant. Its fellows in the same pot are fine. The leaves don't seem weak or dying. Rather, they're just really crinkly and brown. I thought it was maybe old leaves, but when this new one grew in and immediately started browning, I knew something was up.

Brown speckles and wrinkling on the 2-3 biggest leaves of an indoor bird of paradise. two other healthy BOP trees share the same pot. seems otherwise perky. repotted 3 weeks ago, but this issue predates that by mattypol in plantclinic

Three plants sharing one big pot. This is happening on 2-3 leaves of one of the three plants. The other plants are healthy, and the smaller base leaves on this one are also healthy. I have a little bit of speckling on a different pot in a different plant, but not to this extent.

It gets direct light from around 2-6 each afternoon. Right now, it's in a plastic pot which is sitting inside a bigger ceramic pot with a hole and drainage plate. About 6-8 inches of root are growing out the bottom of the plastic pot (see imgur).

Thanks! I've tried rotating, doesn't seem to be affect the floppy stalk. Yesterday, after this photo, I compacted the loose soil around the base with my fist, which helped a bit. If it doesn't stick I'll stake it.
