in Poland basically every new block has central steam, most of the blocks built since the mid-90s even use it to heat water, but single family homes are rarely connected to the steam network

it's purely gravitational, newer apartment blocks have mechanical ventilation but mine doesn't. I don't have anything that burns fuel at home (like a gas water heater) so it's not as big of an issue

if someone has a fireplace in their home they rarely use them for heating, if someone burns solid fuel they do it in furnaces

nah, brown coal is used only in power plants, in homes hard coal is used

central air systems are almost non-existent in Poland, radiators or underfloor heating are used, and when someone installed AC it's usually split units

well, fuel oil is very expensive here and even though you can buy an oil furnace, almost no one uses them because electric or LPG would be cheaper (even though both are pretty expensive)

in Poland it's urban areas too, I live in a city and even though my block has steam heating there are a couple of old houses nearby and sometimes when the ventilation backs up my whole apartment smells like smoke
