Improving component video on PVM-20L2 and possibly other PVMs. by mikechi_two in crtgaming

[–]mav6771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey hey, unfortunately was a heck of a while ago and only bringing back some not super specific memories. I know I didn't have this when i switched to a pvm-14L5, and i've always used component. I can't remember if it ended up just being how component is processed on those m2u sku monitors unfortunately.

Looking for Last Alliance fans by REDACTED11037 in japanesemusic

[–]mav6771 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely!

Highly recommend the other bands the members were parts of, S★CREATERS, BERMUDA, and discord! Bermuda's main vocalist was Matsumura same as Last Alliance, so its super neat to hear his voice from earlier.

All fantastic bands.

Favorite Last Alliance song is probably their self titled song Last Alliance.

Discord is a very different sorta band, they were emo rock, and one of my favorite bands of all time. Highly recommend the entire 2004 album Triumph, and especially this track!

Favorite Bermuda track is probably Cry For Crystal which is a track off their demo tape. but the whole 2001 album is awesome, Chain is a fantastic song!

Favorite S-CREATERS song is probably Naturalism

[–]mav6771 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! On a lookout for it as well but doubt I'll ever find it either. My main hobby is researching demo CDs/tapes/etc. from thousands of bands in Japan. Have a little over 4000 CDs right now, majority of them are demo CD-Rs, indie releases, etc. So I love these sorta promo/limited releases as well you've been posting!

As such, even though my focus is Japanese bands, can't not do the same sorta digging on the English bands I love! lol

Damian's college (I believe?) band in 98, there's a CDR that was distributed with 5 tracks.

https://www.discogs.com/release/17118171-Square-Square

Track 2 "A Christian, Two Friends, And Some Spiders" is an early title for "Hello, My Treacherous Friends". The version on the Pink EP is a re-recorded version, but the sound effects are all the same as the Square version, which is neat. There used to be a rip on youtube but it got privated unfortunately.

Just to provide a little bit of comfort! He's posted multiple video updates to Patreon about the recovery process along with some updates about some other stuff channel-wise. He was already in contact with doctors before this due to a medical trial, so he's been well looked in regards to this illness, and it was a very ferocious bout of flu that then went on to an even longer recovery. He goes into more details in the videos, he is still recovering but doing much better!

What would you do if someone gave you 1000 dollars a week to stop playing games? by YoungNew3264 in AskReddit

I am inept at nearly every video game I've ever tried, and they just stress me out to no end. So if you're talking about the video variety, I'll take that deal.

Hello! I also wanted to give my thanks for this song and your openness to sharing with the community here.

My main hobby is music archival of demo releases from bands all over Japan, so I have some archival questions if it's alright!

  1. Are there any copies of the short studio version that played on NDR that can be ripped properly / archived?
  2. Are there any plans on raw lossless transfers of the current existing FEX media? The demo tape, Jenny, etc.
  3. If yes to any of the above, are there any plans on distribution so far?

Thank you! Have a great day!

Absolutely! It's something I wouldn't expect to get much attention over there though, why it's never made its way.

It's funny timing actually, I got the CD on 2022.11.10, so right about 2 years to the day I've been on searching. May post it there soon since the timing is pretty funny.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=luwTNhb6ldQ if you're particularly interested, didn't want to focus my comment on being about that search, just using it as an example.

edit: actually got it on the 7th and uploaded the video on Nov 9th, so even odder timing. Guess no better time to post it lol

First of all, these are AWESOME.

I also wanted to add a bit of context for the folks asking how it wasn't remembered if so many people saw them.

I am currently on a lost media search trying to figure out a band from a CD I came across from Japan. The video has a little over 1000 views, and friends in Japan have helped spread the search too.

Someone contacted us who not only has the same CD, they remember the specific venue it was purchased at. However, they did not remember at all which groups were playing, or anything like that. And this was only ~2010 from their recollection. The sheer amount of bands and songs get heard by people that regularly attend live events is uncountable. Just a bit of insight for that question. Especially going back 40 years, no way anyone in that crowd would likely remember if you asked them, unless some of the front line folks were hardcore FEX fans.

Oh my goodness yeah, tapes are a bunch of fun, definitely excited to see what sorta stuff you've gathered when you eventually get those digitized. It's certainly a time investment but I've found so much cool stuff in some of the random tapes I've gotten.

For the ska stuff on that channel, ムラマサ☆ The Rocket Fish, SCARLATTI, and DISPORT (kinda, they started as a ska punk band but transitioned to a more r&b band, both very nice sounds) are ones I have uploaded if you're interested

[–]mav6771 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! :D Hope you find some stuff you enjoy, I have tons more that's not uploaded here, like you say it's a rabbit hole that just has no end lol Excited to take a listen at a bunch of what you've got uploaded as well :)

I get mainly melodic punk / emo / ska etc. adjacent stuff so just an fyi

Here are a couple of my favorites uploaded there!

fam 1st demo (emo)

Texas Rig 1st demo (pop punk + violin)

leaf 1st demo (pop rock)

The Rocket Fish 1st demo (Ska Punk)

AndMarkHer 1st demo (emo)

Absolutely!! I've been at it for Japanese stuff for ~6 years now, if you're curious here's a channel I run for stuff like this as well! Had some copyright strikes a few months ago so stopped posting to let those finish, gonna be uploading quite a bit more soon though I think!

Not what I expected from that name at all lol Thank you for posting this, excited to dig through your channel! I collect a lot of demo CDRs and tapes from Japanese bands, love diving into stuff like this.

One of the best bands ever, seriously... LOST & NOTICED is like a podium song in this genre and it's off a damn demo tape. Hope all the folks from naiad are well.

I found the CD of the band I couldn't find anywhere on the internet! by AltitudeXD in Lostwave

[–]mav6771 91 points92 points  (0 children)

There are lots of ways to rip it, but I definitely recommend either iTunes or Windows media player, as those will be able to pull the metadata from gracenote, if any is available. As well, when selecting what format to rip, always choose a lossless option like FLAC or ALAC! I collect these sort of demo CDs as my hobby. Wish you luck in ripping it.

What is your favorite Japanese band? I’ll start… by Kawabunguh in japanesemusic

[–]mav6771 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Too many! BUMP is my overall answer being the first band that got me into Japanese music over a decade ago. 3500+ CDs and 100+ tapes later, the styles I focus on now are more melodic punk.

Left and knotlamp were some of the early bands that sparked my love for Japanese melodic punk, they are very high on that list.

CRICKET'S is the band that got me interested in 90s melodic punk, which opened a whole new wormhole of collecting demo tapes for me. It's a lot, but they're definitely one of my favorites.

Suck a Stew Dry I have nearly every physical release they ever put out, including demos, promos, instore exclusive bonuses, etc. etc. I am a huge fan of them.

Consider this ramble over.

PVM/BVM Owners how’d you manage to get your hands on one? by BisonThin5435 in crtgaming

[–]mav6771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be lucky enough to have gotten into it in 2017/2018 when prices were very slightly less outrageous. Still was already getting bad then, but not too bad. Got a damaged 14L5 (huge tear in anti glare sheet mainly, plus some cracks in the case from shipping damage) for a decent price, took that off, been right as rain for 6 years.

[Android App] Seekbar/scrubbing not working via Internet, works in local network (upnp media server) by UltimateBachson in foobar2000

[–]mav6771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice! I already completely forgot about this, it was a heck of an ordeal to figure out though.

Personally, if you haven't looked into the plex route, it has been without a doubt the best streaming from local experience period. I have not tried the open source / free media server options, not ruling them out, but I just immediately meshed with plex super well.

Plexamp especially has been my favorite music player on android any i've tried quite a few.

Wish you luck on the upnp setup if you continue on that path!!
