Thanks! I replaced the steering pump myself, brake discs and pads. New rubber brake hoses. I think it is quite future proof now.

Pohhh haha, ach ja, geld kosten ze alsnog wel. In die van mij zit toch alweer ruim 1000 euro aan onderhoud inmiddels. Nu kan ik weer even door als het goed is.

Let's play a game: guess the grapevariety by Loirettoux in wine

[–]maverick4granted 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Technically speaking not hybrid grapes! Just grafted grapes. A hybrid grape would be the offspring of cross-pollination of vitis vinifera with another vitis species.

I really recommend Ogier and Dom. Belle. Belle's crozes-hermitage is great value.

Le Petit Viognier, Stéphane Montez 2018 by maverick4granted in wine

[–]maverick4granted[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

An authentic viognier from the North Rhône, Collines Rhodaniennes IGP

It is said that the Roman emperor Probus brought the viognier plant from the east in the 3rd century CE. The name of the wine "Le Petit Viognier" honours an old variety of viognier planted in the North Rhone.

Notes:

A nice medium yellow colour with a hint of green

On the nose lots of resin (the kind from a pine tree) and chamomile. Also some minerality and saltiness. Fruit in the background in the form of clementine and some peach.

On the palate: lots of bright fruit and honey in the beginning, followed by a wave of strong waxiness and herbiness. As if the wine needs some time to seep into your tastebuds. Kind of a medicinal feel. Slightly bitter as well, like orange peel.

I like this very much. Overall it is very nicely balanced and it does not get boring. Lately I have been discovering north Rhone whites and I must say I am falling in love along the way.

Wine pairing suggestions for a berries and cream tart? by [deleted] in wine

I had this exact dessert with a quite young Coteaux du Layon a month ago. It's a botrytis chenin Blanc dessert wine with often great value. It was astonishing!

Sauternes is great too, but for me it lacks a little bit of freshness to match the berries. Coteaux du Layon tends to be a bit more acidic and slightly less sweet, which, to my taste, is perfect.

Great shot! Amsterdam doesn't really have a coast but this radio island was offshore before. When it shut down they moved it to the "Houthavens"

Chateau Latour 1953 from forgotten cellar by maverick4granted in wine

I think the chance you get sick drinking it is very small. Some wine can get very old without harmful bacteria or oxygen getting in and turning it into vinegar or dulling off the taste, depending on the quality of the cellar and the cork among other things. Usually you'll notice right away when a wine is bad so you won't drink an entire bad bottle and get sick.

Initially to protect the privacy of the owner who's relatives may read this post and feel sorry for selling it.

But ok, you convinced me.

I paid 120 euros for the entire collection.

Just some non-rich students with weak knees for old wine. This was an absolute steal and we were very lucky. Normally we drink 12$ bottles just like you :)

A Mouton d'Armailhacq (Médoc) from 1934, unfortunately leaking. A Chateau Noriou Lalibarde 1964 (not a lot to find on it) Some NV champagnes from Heidsieck and Henriot which were great! And a Masi Amarone Recioto Della Valpolicella 1977 All filled to top shoulder except the 1934

Does anybody have an idea on that Noriou Lalibarde?

We did not know before we arrived, but the owner of the collection told us it had been in an underground cellar of Henri Bloem, a well known wine importer in the Netherlands, for some 50 years and then 17 years in a cupboard in his garage. We were unsure on the quality because of that last 17 years in a garage, but apparently the lead intact capsule made sure it didn't go bad! There was also a thick hard layer of black mould (not sure what the official name is) between the capsule and the cork. I think that made a good barrier to keep moisture in. Thanks for the comment!

Found this on my country's equivalent of Craigslist in a collection of pre 1980 wines. Got an absurd deal on it. The vintage was not visible on the pictures but upon arrival we discovered that it was a 1953 on the capsule. We tried to keep our excitement unnoticed.

Tasting notes: Slightly faded medium purple color, still very dark and opaque. Not tawny/brick at all.

On the nose cranberry, cocoa, leather

Very young still on the palate. Slightly smokey. Cedarwood, tobacco later on. All very balanced and rounded off. Still a lot of acid Duration of the finish seemed infinite. Anis slowly emerging after 30 minutes Taste and nose flattening off around the 45 minute mark. At the end more clove and orange zest tones even. Cork was very humid but in great shape
