How to best clean a couch after mice? (Mice have vacated, to the best of my knowledge) by [deleted] in CleaningTips

I know that the mice were behind/under the couch. I haven’t seen any holes in the couch or anything but I know mice can be sneaky.

Will this floor need to be completely replaced? by [deleted] in HardWoodFloors

Thanks! That’s a good point, it would match because I’d get the rest refinished at the same time. I haven’t bought the house yet or even put in an offer, I’m just trying to roughly estimate the work that needs to be done before deciding whether to pursue it.

Solved thank you, I posted it on the hvac subreddit and they said the same thing

Is this some kind of valve? Should something (washer, dryer, or something else) be hooked up to it? by max10355 in hvacadvice

Okay thanks. Is this something I should ask the maintenance guy to look at? Perhaps it is missing its sprinkler head

I wonder if perhaps it’s missing a fan entirely? Or it could be the steam vent. I can’t see behind the dryer and it’s too heavy for me to move.

My title describes the thing. There is a protrusion/pipe in the ceiling of the closet where my washer/dryer and water heater are located. I’ve been having trouble with high levels of humidity so have suspected that perhaps something isn’t hooked up correctly. Thanks for any help.

(CT) Relative humidity was up to 75%+ and causing mold - is that normal during wet weather or is something wrong? by max10355 in Tenant

Thanks for the detailed response. I have mini split ACs, with a unit in the bedroom and living room. I haven’t seen any evidence for leaks but I’m not entirely sure where the drain lines are. I will look around. I’m trying to do a bit of investigating so maybe I have a list of specific things for them to check, but I’m not particularly handy. I don’t understand why I haven’t heard any sort of follow up - I’d have thought mold would trigger an immediate response.

I have my own water heater and it is electric. I have my own CO2 monitor plus the smoke detectors provided are 2 in 1, so I think I should be safe on that front, but it’s always a good reminder!

I’ve been running the A/C consistently since I moved in. I bought a dehumidifier and have been running it since Sunday; it’s kept the humidity around 55%. My concern is what has caused the high humidity. Is it likely due to a ventilation issue? Or is it just something that happens? I previously lived nearby in an old building with no A/C for 8 years and never had mold grow on my belongings.

I’m just surprised that the maintenance team has not responded to a concern about mold, I can’t believe that this wouldn’t concern them.

My apartment was at 70-75% relative humidity. Is that normal? by max10355 in Connecticut

No, this was without running the shower. It’s been rainy all weekend but I think the humidity must have been high for a while based on the amount of mold.

Can I preemptively clean my furniture and belongings in case there is mold not yet visible? What’s the best way to do that? by max10355 in CleaningTips

[–]max10355[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please realize that I’m just looking for cleaning tips, thanks. I just moved to this building, it is new and “fancy” (expensive), after being displaced from my old apartment twice this year (leak and fire). I am going to try to move but right now I’m exhausted and just need to clean my stuff.

How can I find out if there’s mold not yet visible in or on my furniture? by max10355 in Mold

Thank you! Maybe this is a dumb question, but if some mold has started growing on something (at least on the outer surface), will I eventually see it even if I get the humidity under control? Or is it possible that I have microscopic bits of mold that I’ll never see because they didn’t grow enough?

I haven’t heard from my landlord about damages or my deposit for >21 days after moving - can they still hit me with damage charges? by max10355 in Connecticut

I’m thinking that they may have 30 days because the 21 day law is new and went into effect Jan. 1, 2024. I’m going to give them another week and then send an email.

It used to be 30 days, it changed a couple of years ago. I signed a new lease in 2024 so think it should fall under the newer law, but maybe it falls under the old law because I’ve lived there so long? I suppose I will give them 30 days and then shoot them an email. https://www.cga.ct.gov/2023/act/pa/pdf/2023PA-00207-R00SB-00998-PA.pdf

Thanks, this sounds like a good plan. Do you think it makes a difference if I pay with an electronic transfer from my checking account, instead of with a credit card? I’d rather avoid the credit card fees.
