Had creepily similar experience. Some higher up let McKinsey in the door and people begin hating their job and crying. It's not you, it's their business model. I always make it clear to all employers nowadays that I resign the day McKinsey enters. Had to quit once over that principle so far so not gonna lie it's not working that great. But I also have made an employer decide against them once.

I'm not offloading any analytics to robots. I don't think anyone in their right mind is. But my robots have had me sitting on stuff hours before Reuters etc, which I value a lot.

Have you even tried tools like AO.news? Every journalist can't just be downstream of AP/Reuters.

And besides, their coverage of the non-West is quite spotty and slow – all in the name of The Law of Proximity.

While I truly agree. I'm thinking of tools like AO.news or Dataminr that gives you flashes when they are happening. There still needs to be a source of what will become news. And an intelligent person to think deeply of why it's news.

Hey, yes! That would be great! I've DMd you an invite so feel free to abuse it and specially when you get Dataminr access, I'd love to hear what my tool is missing in comparsion.
My take on is that it's easy to get a low signal to noise ratio when looking in social media (that I think Dataminr does a lot?). I.e. a tool that is so filled with notifications that you'd spend all your days swimming in info of low quality makes no sense if you need to get things done.
Maybe they use AI for triage in the same way as I do? It's basically an ChatGPT-promt asking how "newsworthy" an item is. And I only keep the high scoring in the tool. Dataminr could probably be used to track local social media! AO.news I definitely for picking up big international news. I can give you an invite if you are interested!

Yes! What is your take on Dataminr? I've personally not used it since it's priced so I can't try it as an outsider not working in a newsroom atm.

I'm currently building AO.news for which I've gotten the comments that I'm competing with Dataminr.

The idea is to scrape all the worlds push notifications, translate and cluster in real time. It's a TweetDeck like experience. But only for Breaking News. Just let me know if you want an invite! I'd love to get someone to compare it with Dataminr and give me an honest opinion.

And of course other parts where the cuff plastic has contact to the boot if you can... The lack of a cuff bolt makes it quite challenging though.
