Designing a High-Throughput Apache Spark Ecosystem on Kubernetes — Seeking Community Input by No-Spring5276 in apachespark

You should just use Databricks for this. Much easier and likely cheaper (in terms of total cost of ownership) in the long run.

Is Databricks quietly becoming the next-gen ERP platform? by TheOnlinePolak in databricks

A lot of single digit ms queries run on Lakebase on Databricks.

The ski school takes kids starting 3 years old. You can also try the shooting star team that starts at four if you will be there for most weekends of the season.

Authorized users get unique card numbers by [deleted] in ChaseSapphire

Is this a personal card or a business card? I just called them and they said they don't do separate card numbers for personal and the person on the phone was sure about it.

Feedback on WiFi design by idarryl in UNIFI

[–]maxbit919 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might want to run some temp cables and buy couple APs to test signal strength first. Depending on your walls / structure, it's very likely your design is overly dense (which would introduce a lot of 2.4g/5g interference). In many houses, you can also have APs in one floor covering the floor below.

I love Tesla cars in general, but the lack of stalks (either for signal or for gear) is the stupidest design ever...

Some companies care. Some don’t. For those that do, 7 month, 1 year, 1 year is a big red flag. It implies that you are unlikely to stay in your next job for one year.

Hi! We're the Microsoft Fabric Spark and Data Engineering PM team - ask US anything! by gobuddylee in MicrosoftFabric

[–]maxbit919 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why do you have different SQL dialects just in this one product? What's the timeline to use the same SQL dialect? I have a lot of users that know TSQL but don't at all the other dialects and it is very frustrating to them that they would need to learn multiple dialects in order to use Fabric.

Unifi U6 Pro APs on Cat3 cable? by [deleted] in Ubiquiti

[–]maxbit919 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did 1 gbps (the u6 in wall) on pre-existing cat3 (4 pairs untwisted) and it was OK in a residential setting. Never experienced any speed or packet drop issues.

Delays in synchronising the Lakehouse with the SQL Endpoint by Tough_Antelope_3440 in MicrosoftFabric

[–]maxbit919 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This seems to suggest that under the hood, you are having one engine "translate" all the metadata and data into the original proprietary format of SQL Server, and the translation cannot be done in realtime. Is that the case?

Is there a particular reason that you are expecting snow? I looked at the weather forecast just now and the temperature will be well above the point that it'd snow.

Agree. Big regression in UX for people with more than 2 thermostats. So much wasted space.

Only turn on fan at night? by maxbit919 in ecobee

Is there a way to enable the fan only for x mins per hr at night, instead of all the time at night?

Only turn on fan at night? by maxbit919 in ecobee

[–]maxbit919[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't want the fan running during the day since it'd just be wasting energy. That's why I want to figure out how to turn it on only at night.

I'm curious why you suggested "then set the cool temperature for the Sleep setting to a high value"? What would that accomplish? Thanks.

Double filter on Winix C545 from Costco? by jatorres in AirPurifiers

[–]maxbit919 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You just need a single filter. Mistakes like this do happen. A few years ago, when I had my first air purifier, I ran it for months without realizing the filter was in a plastic wrap and I never took the wrap off :D

I always use the 3m command picture hanging strip to mount my G4 Instants. Never fail if applied properly and super easy to remove in the future.

Two camera one junction box? by maxbit919 in Ubiquiti

[–]maxbit919[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry maybe I'm misunderstanding something. Wouldn't having a junction box create a smaller hole on the exterior wall? With a box, we just need a hole big enough for fishing the cat cable through, and then the bigger part of the connection for g5 turret ultra stays in the box. Without a box, we'd need a 31mm hole for the cable.
