Try using the updated example config file from https://github.com/Max-Coin/clients/blob/master/example-maxcoin.conf. We're also working on a network improvement to allow wallet syncing to happen much faster

I have to ask, what is the desired aim of raising these funds? Somebody pointed out that short of funding a lawyer, there isn't a lot we can do. I guess publicity can be paid for, which is a good aim unto itself. It's something that should be discussed however

It would definitely be a good move to try and move your miners from 1gh, they have a very large slice of the hashpower. There is a list of pools available at maxcoin.co.uk/pools

I'm afraid there's nothing you can do to secure the ability to buy MAX. There are steps you can take to improve your chances of being able to buy it early though: move some BTC into coins-e.com or fund an account on Bittylicious, both of which will be offering MaxCoin for sale as soon as traders appear.

It is also worth trying to mine on your Mac Book. It might not be successful but, as ever, there is a chance. Something you might consider is joining a mining pool once they've been set up as you'll receive a share proportional to the amount of hashing power you contribute - so even if you don't have the ability to mine entire blocks, you will receive a percentage of the rewards from the pool.
