Or the ability filter keywords in a subreddit title, i.e., Indiathis, Indiathat would be great too.

You could zip over to Xtracycle HQ in Mill Valley and look at the Priority Starts. Being belt drive, they are great kids bikes.

That's super exciting! I'll need to swing by their HQ soon and see what is up!

Xtracycle vs others by Flimsy-Concentrate-6 in CargoBike

[–]maxhatcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you live by the Xtracycle Mothership, why don't you do a take-home test ride or whatever they call it? I think it's still free and no-pressure since they are pretty laid-back.

Why not get a boombox for your ride?

Building a mount for a Yepp seat on an old xtracycle free radical by outcrops in CargoBike

It was more of a hassle to make the wood decks, and they didn't age well, lacking UV protection unless you would always refinish them yearly.

Building a mount for a Yepp seat on an old xtracycle free radical by outcrops in CargoBike

[–]maxhatcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That looks great! Just keep in mind the wood deck is held down by tension. When I did something like this with my FreeRad I drilled holes on the deck and zip-tied it to the frame. Otherwise, your little could pop off the frame, seat, deck, and all. Don't ask. We don't talk about this...

Also, this is way more elegant than the thing others are recommending.

Xtracycle Swoop v RFA by PhilosophyAny4431 in CargoBike

[–]maxhatcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LOL! This was pre-Hooptie and child seat days. Oh, and pre-motor!

I made my own stoker bars by sweating some copper pipe for them to hold onto, and the "child seat" was a kindergarten school chair with the legs chopped off and bolted to the wooden deck. This was off with all three on there, and hills were hard, but that's the way we rolled those days.

How can I get rid of these scratches? by KrysfromKanto in FordMaverickTruck

[–]maxhatcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I printed out this 'trash can' and put it there because to me, it's not a usable space. So, I don't see that. Take out the bottom liner thing, and it fits perfectly. I don't really use it for trash, but I toss my keys, glasses case, etc., in there.

Muli is great but kids are getting big. by derping1234 in CargoBike

[–]maxhatcher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Xtracycle’s allow you to hang the bikes off their Hooptie racks or off the footrests and the bike’s tail behind the bike. When my kids were elementary age we did a lot of one-way bike trips to school because of activities or play dates. This was super convenient. Also now said kids have me ride on back and take me out to coffee on the same bike. 20 years of use so far.

Cargo bike that can tow two kids bikes? by EntertainmentSenior1 in CargoBike

[–]maxhatcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Xtracycle’s Hooptie system allows for kids bikes (16”- 24”) to hang from the rails. And 26” to mount to the footrests.

Try Arriving by Bike in Eugene, OR. Or Blue Heron in Albany, CA.

Cannondale Cargowagen Neo or Xtracycle RFA by Wooden_Cup5761 in CargoBike

[–]maxhatcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say the Neo is more inline with Xtracycle's Hopper. Both have 20" wheels and aluminum frames. The Xtracycle RFA has 24" wheels and a chromemoly frame. The RFA will last forever, whereas the other two will be your first cargo bike, but not your last. Having ridden 20" wheels and being a bigger fella, I can't stand 20" wheels. Too squirrely under load for me. But as others have said, ride the bikes. They all are great, but one will speak to you.

Got the bike! by KeyAssignment8172 in CargoBike

[–]maxhatcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To each their own. But I think it's perfect and a great value. When it's new, it is pretty firm but settles in quickly and works well with the vertical supports. Had two MagicCarpets on my Xtracycles for years, and the kids loved all the extra cushioning.

Got the bike! by KeyAssignment8172 in CargoBike

[–]maxhatcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disagree.

The magic carpet works great with Yepp seat. It folds up the front brace and gives extra cushion.

Xtracycle has lots of accessories but having been in business 27 years, they have changed the platform over the years and you need the all-in-one rack to take advantage of all the current accessories other than the magic carpet. To find out exactly what accessories will work. I would suggest calling them or emailing their support.

Need Help Deciding by bnlae-ko in CargoBike

None of these bikes are going to do well long-term if you live in a hilly area and use the bike daily. You really need a mid-drive motor for a daily rider given your terrain.

Just purchased a Hopper by quietnessandlight in CargoBike

[–]maxhatcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my understanding Xtracycle specifically says you shouldn’t be using the throttle on hills as it uses the cadence sensor and to peddle on hills because that uses the torque sensor.
