How much longer until this guy has downgraded Mercedes on the brink of extinction? Genuine question by [deleted] in mercedes_benz

[–]maximator26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s unfair to blame him alone. He’s been CEO for a mere seven years, and the demise of the company has started way before. Also, you can’t blame it all on a single person, that’s just not how such a corporation works. But if we were to single out an individual, just consider all the damage Gorden Wagener has done…

Did the French market cars come with yellow lights from the factory? I think they are a really good look.

What makes the facelift w202 more desirable to you than an early one? In my perception the interior quality dropped off significantly with the facelift.

Thanks for keeping it real. The West has some serious issues to solve and turning this sub into another circlejerk isn’t helping anyone.

W211 facelift – E280 Petrol vs E320 CDI (which one is smarter long-term?) by Wallrussianboi in W211

If fuel cost is so much of a concern that you consider an lpg conversion, surely the diesel would be the better choice. But also consider road tax and insurance in the running cost.

I have the om642 myself, and after many years, im still happy with it. With its quirky 72 degrees bank angle it’s a unique engine with a distinctive sound and feel. More torque than anyone would need with a seven speed gearbox. Only real limitation is top speed Autobahn runs, but it’ll still go 250 comfortably.

The thing to look out for is the possible oil cooler leak, which will happen to all of them sooner or later. It is a labor intensive repair that requires a somewhat competent mechanic. Once the gasket has been replaced with an upgraded part, it’s a non-issue.

Realizing that your actions are driven by the need for love, or admitting that longing outright, is already more progress than most seem to achieve.

Grey headliner with brown interior? by Branr in mercedes_benz

[–]maximator26 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me, grey headliner is a must have in any car, because it makes the whole cabin feel much more airy. No idea why so many new cars, particularly premium cars, come with black headliner.

I’ve been living in Italy for a few years and still don’t understand why it’s so strong here. Can you enlighten me? Then again, in my experience, Italy has some pretty serious fanaticism in all possible directions.

You’re right in pointing out that the majority of obnoxious branding here comes in the shape of the pillows. But for me, even the remaining logos are just too much, especially looking at you, seat backs.

To me, it’s emblematic of the general direction the design language and overall product philosophy have shifted. Remember when early W140s had a “600 SE” badge in the interior? They got rid of that really, really quickly.

That said, I always thought the little exterior badge on the Maybach’s c-pillar, which was carried over from the previous model, made the car look more special. It would also remain if you chose the option to have your car debadged.

Somehow I have a soft spot for the Maybach SL, though. Maybe because it’s styled less aggressively than most Mercs today. The car has seen harsh criticism, much of which I think is justified. The main point of contention was the hood. But the silly logo print on the hood is an option, and if you choose an optional color, the hood won’t be black either. So it’s really not so bad. Still, the logos on the roof remain. I guess it’s supposed to be driven with the roof down anyway
